    Really, it's about time!

It doesn't seem to have had any major design upgrades since the V1Jp in that pic at least...

What's so special about V series? I know it's much more expensive than, say, the G1 series, but from a spec stand point, for no real reason. Is it simply the Lamborghini branding that makes it so pricey?

Edit: Can Asus please stop pretending all their high mid-range GPUs are the ultimate in extreme mobile computing? They do their part in te market, but their not extreme by any standards.

The V1 is a business laptop.

It's lighter, slightly thinner, more durable (Mg lid, carbon fiber bottom). Has a spill-proof keyboard, anti-shock HDD, fingerprint scanner, a better business-class keyboard, TPM chip...

    It also looks more professional.

As for the VX2, it's everything the V1 is, except it has leather palm rests, and some lambo stylish additions to the chassis.

Pre-SR, it had a better GPU than the V1, but now, we're not sure whether or not they'll both just have the 8600M GT.

Only the VX series is Lamborghini branded. These are the ones that are overpriced.
V1 series is aimed at the business sector and comparable to the prices of G1 series.

Well, no in all fairness, the V1 is more expensive than the G1 series...

I consider the VX2 a business laptop too, because it's basically a V1 with a lot of silly frills detracting from it...but that's just my opinion :p

I would've been real disappointed if the VX2s came out with a better GPU than the V1s again and forced me to buy that silly little thing...but that's a whole other topic

Well, than i´ll have to correct:
In Germany prices for G1 and V1 series are comparable.
    This G1 with a T7200 and WXGA display costs 1,419 € (=1,900 US$)
    http://www.heise.de/preisvergleich/a236818.html
A V1P with inferior CPU but better display costs 1,399 €.
    http://www.heise.de/preisvergleich/a219435.html

Unfortunately there are no V1 with better CPUs on the German market.

It baffles me that the G1s and V1s have the same specs, should be within $100 of each other in price, and yet the V1 looks so much better and is a lot lighter.

Somehow, I'm guessing that the V1s will not get the 8600M GT in the US. It would either cannibalize G1 sales, or it would be priced way too highly.

Either that or they have sold enough G1S's already that they aren't worried about it.

If it doesn't have the 8600M GT, here's to hoping that it'll carry the ATI HD 2600 XT (since the prior V1Jp simply offered the ATI alternative to the Go7700) :p

...but I think that's wishful thinking this time around...we'll see.

I really liked the V1Jp, I hope the V1S would be a good laptop too.
It's true, G1S looks flashy, has a great performance/price ratio. But, it's heavy and has an inferior build quality when compared to the V1 - the Chassis of G1 is based on A6.And I really don't like to carry such a flashy laptop around.

I was told by proportable that the Vx2 would have the 8700, Not sure if thats true given its heat output.

It has been confirmed at computex that the V1s will have the 8600GT, I would say it will be DDR2, Not DDR3 like in the G1S

Honestly, I was skeptic that the V1s would have the 8600M GT, so if this happen to be true I think I'm going to love this notebook.

However, it seems too perfect, and that kind of worried me...

The computex spec card listed it as 8600GT, Just keep in mind the DDR thing, DDR3 gets around 4000 3dmark06 points, DDR2 gets like 3500

There is no reason to believe they will be putting in the ddr2 version. The MBP has the gddr3 version and is VERY thin and light for a 15 inch...if Apple can pull it off, Asus surely can.
