milestone, do you have any V1S in stock right now for Canada? If you do I am willing to purchase it tomorrow and pick it up tomorrow. Please read my PM that I sent you for more info as you have not responded to it yet.

Thanks MilestonePC for your good explanation.
If we make a battery wear poll, we should add it so that there are no unfounded or false alarms anymore.
My battery wear has now stabilized at 2.2% after it kept fluctuating for about four weeks. I am happy with this, all the laptops I had before showed a lot more battery wear after the first weeks. -

OK guys, I got the first reply from a german V1S user!
NO BATTERY WEAR PROBLEM!
But look at it yourself:
My battery wear has now stabilized at 1% -
Nice. Well, if by accident or not, they seem to have it fixed then. Let's hope it stays that way. And battery life improves over the next few models, because downwards there isn't much more that it can go from the 1.5 - 2 hrs that the new models get.

Glad to hear. Asus is back to now saying that there is nothing wrong with the V6j, so you are lucky that you don't have to deal with that.
-
Maati please dont make sweeping generalisations, Just because your battery at this point in time does not have an issue, It dosent mean it wont develop down the track, Or might be affecting other users.
-
-
a bit offtopic, Caleb, how are you doing about your replacement notebook?
-
I didn't make any generalisation.
Furthermore you must agree that there can't be any general battery problem with the V1S (at least in germany) because there are already three users who do not have any problem.
This means the problems discussed here are individual cases but nothing general. -
No problems yet, As pointed out by mystic golem and E.B.E it will take at least a month, and probally 2 before we can get a better idea.
-
O.K Further update to my VX2........
Battery wear was up to 41% !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Did the BIOS battery calibration and then turned the laptop back on until it got to BIOS and left it there to let the battery go down even further.
I then charged it up and the wear dropped to 21%.
I'm doing all that again now to see if I get any change again. -
Wow.
Obviously the german users do not have problems. But why should they use other batteries (or whatever) in the US?!
I'm really happy with my V1S because it's one of about only five V1S allover germany and it will be at least until September 25
And it's perfect.............. no problems here and my battery wear is stable
The german V1S are now already older than one month and noone had any problem so far. I heard something about issues with the V1S that are causing delays (besides the screen shortage). Mine got no issues but perhaps they meant the ones that were sold in the US? -
maati thats not good news!
Where do you get the September 25 from? Im from Denmark but have ordered the Asus V1S in Germany just because its simply alot cheaper than in DK. The dealer dosent have it in stock yet and cant tell anything about an estimated arrival date, so Im prepared to wait a bit, but there is a long time until September 25.
Btw. do you have any information regarding wheter the new version of the V1S will be able in Europe/Germany anytime soon? -
There is a big shipment from Taiwan for germany that is currently prepared. They will ship September 12 (or later) and reach germany on September 14 (or later). This means the resellers will have them September 16 or even later.
So my V1S won't be one among five in Germany until September 25 but it will be one among five that reached their owners
German users will have to wait no longer than two weeks if they preordered early enough. That's not too bad news actually.
It will surely take a long time until he new version is available imho. -
Okay thanks. I ordered mine almost two weeks ago, so im optimistic
Nice information btw, do you work at a notebook shop in Germany? -
no
I'm just the normal end-user.... but the first one in germany -
Why Asus does NOT make a high-capacity or extended hour battery?
-
CalebSchmerge Woof NBR Reviewer
You effectively can with the V1s, through the multi-bay battery. But, I have a feeling it has to do with design. Extended batteries extend out of the notebook, and Asus strive to make nice looking computer (at least the top of the line) so that wouldn't look very nice.
-
In spite of having battery PROBLEM why do people buy ASUS ?
-
CalebSchmerge Woof NBR Reviewer
I appears that in new models the only "problem" is the relatively short battery life. Asus notebooks have one of the best builds (most people put them at #2 in the industry) and some of the best looks (find me a computer that looks nicer and is built as well as a V6). Not to mention, their customer support is better than other companies (though it could still improve a little). Overall, they are some of the best notebooks around.
-
I have been in the market to buy a good notebook since April 2007 doing some research I found about notebookreview.com and I became a member in Mar 2007 since then I am following mostly Sony FZ 190 CTO, H.P dv6500t, Apple Mac Book Pro and Asus V1S A1. Now narrowing it down between Sony FZ190 CTO and Asus A1S V1 I am almost ready to place an order for my new V1S B1. I have also noticed that some retailers also have this in stock. The only thing holding me back is the fear of battery wear.
PS: I would also like to add that notebookreview.com and all their members have been a great help to me. -
CalebSchmerge Woof NBR Reviewer
Battery wear is a good fear. You should be slightly comforted to hear that it appears that this isn't an issue. It would be nice to hear from other members with the V1s (Tim, matt_h) and any others to see what they find. It is also good for you that you would get the new 1 year accident warranty free from Asus!
-
I can not agree that Asus is one of the best when it comes to build quality.
Material quality of my V1S is good but this is not one of the "I don't mind if my notebook falls to the floor" laptops.
The Zepto 6625WD and the Medion MD96500 I had before felt more stable because their case had no flex.
However, I am very, very, ve--- happy with my V1S. It is simply the best notebook I ever had and there is no other notebook out there that can show all the things the V1S is equipped with. The only alternatives are Lenovo (T61p) and HP notebooks for $3000 and more. The V1S is a $1800 notebook that does not have to hide behind any Lenovo, HP, Dell or whatsoever notebook! -
CalebSchmerge Woof NBR Reviewer
Then I must say that Asus is slipping. Not that I am out to throw my computer at the wall, but this laptop is the best built I have felt - across everything from Dell, Toshiba, HP, Acer, and even a few Thinkpads. Granted, the two you listed are not ones I have ever seen (or touched), but still, compare Asus to all other notebooks, and they are certainly one of the best.
-
Same here, the V6 is the best-built notebook I have ever seen except perhaps IBM thinkpads. Build quality on other, older ASUS notebooks like the M6/Z70 and the W3 is also brilliant. That also goes for the looks.
-
I am comparing a lot of notebooks and I have mixed feelings about Asus.
On the one hand, their design looks sometimes even more "business-like" than the Lenovo's and the materials feel great. But on the other all Asus laptops show more or less flex of the case (not the lid) and they often make a lot of "scrrr" (I don't know how to call them) noises when you bend the chassis or push on certain parts of the surface.
I cannot tell whether this is really a problem or not, perhaps other notebooks break much more easily even if they feel more stable...
But the feeling you have when touching the laptop is very important, I hate the fear of breaking something everytime I use it.... -
Well, I pick up my laptop from one corner all the time and I hear no sounds whatsoever.
It figures, palm rest is aluminum and bottom is carbon fiber. I'm not going to pick it up from the screen, although it would probably take that just fine

It will. I had done that once or twice to my V6j. It was a great notebook. Too bad its on its way to Fremont right now.
-
If at all there is a battery problem cant Asus fix it with a firmware or Bios upgrade I think Apple has done the same. I have read this on this forum.

With so many complains dont you think they are worried of their reputation. Besides that it does not cost them much.
-
Like I said earlier IF at all the new V1S A1/B1 suffers from the same battery were problem Asus will be loosing a big share of their business notebook customers.
-
CalebSchmerge Woof NBR Reviewer
The problem is that we think this is a big issue, but many people have literally no idea that there is something wrong with their computer, and do not push Asus to fix it. If/When Asus isn't accountable, they suffer no loss in reputation, and they don't have to and won't fix it.
-
Someone should take the Initiative to put this to their notice. Or if they get significant number of complaints they might do some thing.
-
CalebSchmerge Woof NBR Reviewer
I have. I have spent a year trying to get my computer fixed. They won't. They won't acknowledge that there is something actually wrong.
-
Battery wear is my biggest fear holding me back from ordering my new A1S B1.
-
CalebSchmerge Woof NBR Reviewer
Well, if you think it will help, you can write Asus, but if I had to guess, they will say there is no such problem, that they have never heard of it, and you will be safe to buy.
-
CalegSchmerg at present I dont have any notebook. If I order A1S B1 it will be my first one.
-
A1S A1/B1 are new so it is too early to determined if there is any problem.
-
CalebSchmerge Woof NBR Reviewer
True. But, within 2 weeks we should have a good answer of if there truly is a problem.
-
-
CalebSchmerge Woof NBR Reviewer
Wish I could help, but only time will tell. Be patient!
-
Some forum members have baught A1S B1 today. I am sure they will post their reviews.

Yes, but the battery wear issues can take a while to develop. It doesn't seem that you want to wait that long.

Im finding the left click _very_ annoying, Im having to press down really hard to get it to register and it makes a very loud squeak/creaking noise, The problem seems to be that instead of using 2 buttons and the centre fingerprint reader, the went with one solid sheet that pivots left or right, Which is a very stupid idea. If it gets worse I will take it to the repair centre.
-
Mine is pretty hard to press, too, but it is not that annoying. I got used to it quickly.
So if you got the time let them repair it.
Could you take your V1S by one corner or squeeze it at the palm rest and tell me if there is any creaking noise or whatsoever?
I just can't belive that my V1S is the only one that has flex and noises. -
nope, none whatsoever, no matter where or hard I press, the only squeek/ creak I get is my left click.
