This did not work for me, but as I said before, the glitch with the mod battery may have had something to do with my problem. Thanks for the tip tho! Did this work for anyone else?

Remember also that when the notebook is plugged in, it won't charge all the way to 100%. It stops charging somwhere in the high 90s, it's a feature designed to prolong the life of the battery.
-
are you quite sure about that? Maybe the reported max charge is not quite what the battery can hold if current is really pushed into it, because that would damage the battery, but I think the battery is charged up until the reported max charge, and only after that the current is cut off.
It is slowly decreasing before that, either due to physical effects in the battery (which I think is the main effect, because the curve of the current has an exponentially decreasing character), or due to the charge controller in the batt firmware. -
I just thought I might share my ever worsening grief with my V1J. Once fully charged at 100%, I'm only about fifteen minutes away before it drops to 3%, then 0%...I can run it at 0% until my machine dies (about 2.5 hours).
ASUS will replace my main battery but still no word on actually fixing the bug. -
To all the people who have RMA'd a notebook or battery to Asus because of a V1 battery problem, have any of you received your item back from Asus yet? I am still waiting for my battery. If you have, was the problem fixed?
-
"ASUS will replace my main battery but still no word on actually fixing the bug."
"If you have, was the problem fixed?"
Hardly likely. (Read: no way.) -
I rmaed my v1jp's battery, i had this stupid crap as well. 50 percent and below my battery just drops to zero straight. Havent tested it out myself but according to the tech staff there, they said they tested it out. -
This thread is for the V1S not the V1JP which is already known to have significant battery problems.

About the same issue but on the R1f:
My father sent information on this issue (including links to this and similar threads) to a major newspaper here in Portugal, who then published a small news about this.
Unfortunately it seems the journalist didn't mention the fact that there are several people with these complaints (she just mentioned ONE person complaining). ASUS's reply, which was also in the newspaper, was that "battery problems are unfortunate but inevitable" and that "this is not a widespread issue", but denied that this problem exists.
It seems then that ASUS is going to stick with this story. Sad news for all with this (non-ficticious) problem. -

HerrKaputt: if you wonder over to the tabletpcreview forums, you will see alot of information about the battery problem on the R1F. Some members are reporting that it has been fixed though (something to do witht he mother board),

News on the modular battery issue from Asus via ExcaliberPC
Asus headquarter replied and said
1. They are currently testing a new batch of modular batteries which might be the potential replacements for the ones that has problems.
2. Asus is well aware of the issue and all Asus service locations around the world will be notified with the test result once Asus verifies the modular battery is a fully working.
I asked if this was to replace all modular batteries with the problem of not switching to the main battery, or just batteries that are bricking machines (Which could potentially be all of them) -
Nice. It would be satisfying to see them actually issue a recall once.
-
matt_h1,
Thanks for the info. Your continued efforts and great information is highly appreciated.
I type this on my new V1S-B1!! Will look forward to hearing more about the modular battery ordeal. -
I rma'd my battery a few weeks ago and wasn't sure if they fixed the battery or gave me a new one..said it was a pin problem?..received the laptop just 1 week ago and the battery works fine i guess. 2.5 hours normal. This laptop has had so many problems they are sending me a completely new replacement v1s-b1 laptop. hopefully they send me one that can actually left click >_< *crosses fingers*.
-
Magicrice, were you affected by the "modular kills main" problem, or something else?
-
I requested RMA for my primary battery today, and as this suppoert tech was much nicer than the ones I've talked to before, he actually believed me when I said many others where experiencing the same problem.
He hadn't heard anything about the problem from Asus global yet (I called Asus Nordic), but I guess things will be fine if they are informed during the comming days.
So now I'm just hoping that it's just my battery that's ****ed, and not the whole laptop. -
Looks like I have now been hit with the "modular kills main" issue. Off to RMA land I go (hopefully for the main battery, and not the whole laptop itself).
-
BTW, Thank you very much for your work on getting and distributing information! -
It seems to me there are two problems mixed up in this thread. Let me clarify:
Problem 1: With a single main battery, every time you do a serious discharge, the battery wear increases by around 5%. A "serious discharge", on my father's R1f, means discharging the battery from 100% charge to below 30/40%. This is the original problem in this thread.
Problem 2: Correct me if I'm wrong, because I don't have a modular battery and have never experienced this. With two batteries (main and modular), when you use the two simultaneously, once the modular battery finishes draining to 0%, the laptop will shut down even though the main battery is charged. To switch the laptop back on you will have to plug it to AC power.
I suggest that from now on you folks mention clearly which problem you are posting about, to avoid confusion. Or maybe someone with this problem 2 can start a new thread about it.
Cheers! -
Problem 3: The main battery dies and is not usable anymore suddenly after some discharge cycles with both the main and the modular battery.
Whereas I think Problem 1 does not exist on the V1S but only on the R1F and V1J. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought we already found out that this problem, which was the initial one in this thread, did not really exist. At least, I didn't read of anyone else having this problem except those who started the thread.
So what I was asking about were the Problems 2 and 3. -
Well I talked to the notebook customer service people again today and learned I'll be getting my notebook back tomorrow! They said that BOTH the batteries tested 'dead'. I was told that because they don't have the modular batteries in stock at this time I'll have to wait until the end of the month for a replacement on that...
Nobody seemed to admit that the modular battery was causing this fiasco, so I sure hope the next battery doesn't zap the main again. -
Sounds like theyve phased out the old batteries because of this problem. The new stock will probally be the new model mentioned by ExcaliberPC Any chance you could post the SKU when you get it to see if it differs from the old ones?
-
Of course!
It just baffles me that the battery I sent in "didn't work"... and I'm not going to hold my breath that the new battery wont kill the primary again. -
wait was the problem the modular bay battery or the main battery?
-
My modular battery no longer works, Its been used 5 times at most, When its in the computer detects is but cannot display a capacity, it just sits on charging. The computer cannot draw power from it, and wont boot with just the modular battery (Boots with main battery + modular battery). So it looks like a new problem for this battery. My notebook isnt bricked, but this is still aggravating.
-
i received my new main battery from Asus and it seems to work fine-however I have not really tried to use it in conjunction with the mod. battery to see if it will brick the main battery. I'm afraid to really. I don't want to have to wait another month for the RMA process if it doesn't work out.
-
For problem 1, I've done numerous serious discharges on my V1S and the battery wear hasn't budged from 1% - a level I am perfectly happy with.
-
Try it, we must know!
-
I've just received RMA-codes for my V1s, but I'm not shure if I should return the whole thing or just the batteries. The guy at support said the service time would be about two weeks if I send in the whole computer, and about a month if I send only the batteries. To be honest, I'd rather be a month without batteries than two weeks with no computer at all, but something tells me it would be best to let them test the whole thing.
What do you think? -
I'd hold off as they wont have new batteries for a month and your RMA # is good for 30 days.
Fedex's plane with my shipment had some maintenance issues so I won't be getting my laptop back until tomorrow :+{ -
So it's comfirmed that that problems are with the batteries and not the computer itself?
-
This is exactly the question I posted some posts/pages before......
No answer yet
Anyone who knows it? (matt_h1) -
Id say its not really a problem with either, but actually a compatibility issue, the V1J and Jp both use the same battery and work fine.
Hence they are releasing a new battery to fix the issue, ExcalberPC said the new battery is getting a new model number so it should be a different part. -
EXcaliberPC Company Representative
The new battery might not necessarily have a new part number, but they are definitely from a new batch. Hopefully, we will hear from Asus soon. Thanks!
-
I'd be very happy if this was true because it would mean that we (ecept those who already had to) don't have to return our notebooks in order to be able to put in a 2nd battery. -
Any news?
-
yup, and its not good, my modular battery stopped taking a charge, so I took it to the local asus center and got it replaced, next day I was using it and it turned off, couldnt get my notebook to come back on despite the main battery being completely full, I now cant get the main battery to work at all, It shows 88% capacity when I boot under modular or AC, but never increases or decreases and if I removed AC or modular battery (Or a combination of the two) The notebook immediately turns off, so not good. Looks like im going to have to get a replacement.
-
I suggest that until this issue is solved (which may never happen -- speaking from my experience with the other ASUS battery issues), all of the affected users RMA their main battery for a replacement, and try to get a refund on the modular battery...
-
I hope it won't take too long until the new (working) batteries are available...
-
I went out to the Asus repair center _again_ Today, (2.5 hours travel each way) They are going to replace my screen (Had a small patch of dull pixels) The motherboard (The Spdif wasnt working) and they gave me a new battery.
They also are going to post it back to me because I asked very nicely and showed them that it didnt specify America only on the overnight shipping, Also, they really dont care, They gave me a new modular battery without question on Monday, and gave me a new main battery without question today, Very good customer service, nice guys to. Oh, they said if they had parts it would be done by tommorow morning, if they had to order them in, it would take a week. -
-
Again: Any news?
-
I received my new modular battery from Asus earlier this week... the computer will recognize it but wont charge it/use it.
"..." -
I got my V1S-B1 about a month ago- no battery problem at all
-
Do you use the modular battery?
-
I got some (hopefully good) news!
A V1S owner in Germany recieved a new main battery which has a new serial number:
68NXAG instead of the old 68NYAG
I hope this means that the new batteries are coming... -
Hopefully the new batteries have also fixed the issue
-
Hope you can update as about the new battery. With regards to the V1S notebooks, the problem is only with battery wear, right?
-
No.
Please read the V1S Modular battery problem thread -
Why is there no activity in this thread anymore? Have people had the problems fixed?
Anyway... I'm expecting to get my V1s with main and modular batteries back this week, and I'll be rather upset if my main battery dies on me again.
