I just discovered a crack in the cover of my V1S:

(Sorry for the unclear picture, my camera is acting funny.)

What can I do about this? Is damage control viable? Should I some how glue it?

    a) Warranty claim if still under warranty.
    b) Get a new LCD cover (I guess that's the part that's broken?) from the ASUS eStore and replace the old one -- assuming it's available and on stock
    c) Glue. There have been suggestions in the past on how to do this, check for instance the "F3 palmrest crack" thread.

I don't plan to keep the laptop for long, any damage-control I can do for the next 6 months?

Glue. (as mentioned above by E.B.E.)

Whoa, I had that crack too. Same place. If you don't fix it soon-ish, it will break more (like mine) :(

I'd suggest a 2 part epoxy glue instead of crazy/super glue if you have some laying around the house.
