Few questions about the V1S vs. G1S ....
I will be using it mainly for HTPC and internet surfing, very little if any gaming. Also my wife is going back to school.
What are the +/- between the two. Overall which would best fit my needs. I really like the V1S and the finger-print scanner, do not like the lights on the G1S.
Is the audio/video capabilities of the V!S the same as the G1S ?? i.e. will I be able to get SPDIF out from V!S to my home audio system. The specs for the G!S from excaliber show HDCP support, does the V1S have this capability as well ?
Is the docking station availble for the G!S and does it have the HOT swap bay? Also there are a few differences b/n the listed utilities b/n the two.
I know these are alot of questions, this will be our first notebook. Trying to make an inormed decision. I have an ASUS motherboard in my PC and it's been great
Thanks in advance and sorry if I for rambling.

No gaming? Those are gaming notebooks but anyway.
The V1S has fingerprint and a spillproof keyboard. The G1S has a GDDR3 8600 so it has better gaming performances -
They both should have same audio/video capabilities.
The advantage G1S has is its faster GPU, thanks to GDDR3. However, since you don't game, this won't matter for you. G1s doesn't have modular bay or docking station, AFIAK. Also, G1S may have better screen, but I am not very certain. AFIAK, screens on both the newest V1/G1 are not great.
For you, V1S should be much better choice. It is smaller, as its about an average size for 15.4inch laptop - whereas G1S is huge for 15.4inch laptop. V1S is better build than G1S, and have more connectivity options. And there's no stupid lamps. -
The G1S is a gaming notebook, hence the flashy lights. The V1S is more tailored for business, though it also comes with a good graphics card. The V1S has a smaller frame and will be more portable.
Both the V1S and G1S have HDMI and SPDIF. I would think they would have similar capabilities, but can't say for certain.
The docking station is available for the V1S, and the V1S has the hot swappable bay, not the G1S.
I wouldn't worry about the utility differences. Anything essential is provided on both.
Overall, simply because you don't need strong gaming capabilities and you don't like the lights on the G1S, the V1S is the best choice. The specs on both are very similar, and the V1S has extras that the G1S doesn't have. -
Thanks for quick replies, I am going to pull the trigger on the V1S ....
Best reseller ?? Excaliber or Powernotebooks or ... -
Both are reputable. GenTech ( http://1toppc.com) is another popular reseller for Asus notebooks, however they only have the V1S-B1 on pre-order as the V1S-A1 is now considered EoL.
-
What will take it's place.
What is the ETA of the B1
Thanks -
I think they made it EoL in preparation for the drops in price for Intel processors.
The V1S-B1 is essentially the same thing, but it comes with a T7700 2.4ghz cpu (vs the T7500 in the A1).
According to GenTech, the ETA is mid-sept, but delays are very common with Asus, so its hard to predict.
