Hello, I've had my V1S since mid November and I've had the trifecta of problems. Well, there's the "Modular kills main" battery problem. I've contacted Asus support about it when it happened, they said I had a new battery coming, but I've heard nothing in a month. After that, there was a problem activating Vista. I just got a BIOS error or something like that. Asus support says I need to reload my machine with the recovery disc. That should be fun. I just reset the activation counter to postpone that headache. I might as well take the time to do a fresh reload and do it right. Any threads on how to do that properly?
Finally, the biggest problem is with my screen. As you may or may not be able to see in the pics (sorry, the camera is like 7 years old and potographing a screen is harder than I thought), I'm having a weird "thing" going on with my screen that seems to be with an internal connection. There's these weird lines that appear in everything and move around when I open my screen more or less. I've found that if I press on the back of the screen on the lower left just inside the left mounting hinge, the problem clears up until I let go. The strange thing is that it only appears in darker colors like pictures and if I have an all-white Word doc open, everything is fine. Dark things such as backgrounds of other BBS pages makes a flicker. It's really aggravating and I was thinking about taking it apart and checking the connections. Sending it back to be serviced would be a hassle. Anyone else had this problem?
Pics. Try to ignore the screen door part of the LCD that shows up in pics and lok at the problem instead. The second pic shows it better as it sorta traces the outline of the cloud:

The screen problem may be one of several things:
1. LCD inverter board or inverter cable.
2. LCD signal cable.
3. LCD itself.
The fact that it goes away when you push in the lower-left area makes me think about the inverter. How about tapping? Does it change if you tap in that area?
Checking and reseating the connections is certainly something that could be done. You probably have to take the keyboard off, and possibly also the keyboard bezel if there is any. You might need a disassembly manual.
If you can't fix it by reseating the cables, send it in. It's no point starting to pay for your replacement components and trying to do it yourself.
I suggest try to get the screen issue sorted out first, before going into the OS reinstallation. (it'd be pointless if you send it in anyway) -
I have the same problem - some dark colors are replaced by redish blinking light. I am planning to send the laptop to the ASUS service.
