I have a small dilemma. Here in Sweden the V2Je is equiped with 2GB RAM and 160GB HD but it lacks the UMTS module... If buying from Germany the price will be higher for the same configuration but the UMTS module is included.

So my question is if it's possible to add a HDSPA module yourself... Is it just a expansion card to insert under a hatch? Does anyone know if Asus offers this opportunity at all?

The batteries are still the big worry... I'm thinking of adding a 9-cell (which is not included in Europe) and then come up to a decent battery level.
Do you guys know if the V2Je suffers from the same wear problem as the R1F?

I think it's a module than can be easily installed. At least this is the case for A8Js bluetooth module [many A8 series don't have bluetooth,so they can buy them and install them,] but I think you might find difficulty to find one of these modules. So it might be better to buy them one with HDSPA module installed. You can also ask the dealer/support about it.

From my understanding there will be 2 versions of the V2Je. One with 3.5G and one without, and the cost difference is expected to be ~$500 USD in difference.

Right now it will be too soon to tell whether the V2Je suffers from the battery wear problem, however you can still use MysticGolem's workaround, Click Here.

You will have to ask users of the V2Je to monitor their battery over a 2 weeks process and see whether it is getting abnormal wear percentages from the ACPI (software).

it depends on the actual module and whther or not asus estore will sell it. If they do sell it then it is possible to install. I seriously doubt they will sell it. It is also possible the module will be soldered rather then ported/wired. Simnple modules like tpm, bluetoth can be ported becuase there are relatively few circuits.

The module will NOT be easily removable. I'm not 100% sure if it's on the motherboard or a seperate module, I do believe it's a seperate module, but it's on the inner side of the motherboard and NOT easily reachable.... Basically, if it were something a user could do, it would require #1 - sourcing the module and Asus isn't going to do that at this time and other than that, good luck finding one! and #2 - you'd need to basically take your entire system apart to reach the point on the motherboard that it would go... something I know maybe 1% of consumers would have the guts to do...

Lets not jump to conclusions. you and danny both said the blueooth upgrade on various models is almost unatainable while at the same time saying "that btotech is doing something borderline illegal by modding them" in less direct ternms. If the module becomes available the upgrade will be very posible and fairly easy. I surmize you will never find the module becuase it probably will not be modular.

Well we can easily summerize why two models are coming in... and that's because it's not an easily accessible mini pci express slot or a module like the little bt module.... For Asus to stock two models at the same time, rather than a bunch of one, with a box of cell modules means it's simply not easy... maybe even not possible. Overhead is Asus' #1 enemy and that alone should tell us what's going on, even if we had no other knowledge whatsoever..... ;)

Loomastic can you tell us what the price difference is in Europe between the two models? I'm curious if the price delta is about $500? :)

Prices in Sweden and Germany differs some due to taxes and so but the model with T5600, 160GB HD, 2GB RAM and NO hdspa costs around $2185 and the german model with T5600, 120GB HD 1GB RAM and hdspa/umts costs $2300 (+ around $100-150 for me for shipping and keyborad exchange)
