    Undecided at the moment.

    I can get a similarly config'd processors,128mb vid card, 160gb 7200 rpm drive, 2.0mp webcam...yada ALL from the INsprion 1420 for:
    1100.

The V2 is the same processor, does it have a better video card? Why else would I buy it over the Inspiron?
The v2 is like 600 more for what really?

    -Thanks!

The V2 will have better build quality, but it pretty much depends if that and a better gpu are worth $600 to you.

The ASUS support is much better.
The build quality and the GPU are better.Things like the e-Sata, and potentially better screen AFAIK.

Quality of V2S beats the Dell hands down. Plus ASUS has great service and warranty.

Is the Nvidia GForce discrete vid card on the Dell 1420 the same as the Asus v2s?

The V2S is miles ahead of the 1420 in terms of quality and support. It also has a more powerful video card, eSATA, HDMI, better looks (subjective), and a global hardware warranty, to name a few things.

Or you could get the Dell.

The 1420 comes with an 8400GS and the V2S has an 8600GS.

I guess the concensus is that beyond: fingerprint reader, extra graphics, sHDMI, wivel webcam...the 1420 is the same as the V2S?

Asus is gonna be a better investment in my opinion, better quality could mean better life span. I would always suggest Asus over Dell, imo, I dont like the Dells...they feel very plastic and weak. Compared to the Asus V2s. And the Asus has a better resolution and it looks better overall.

And the V2S has way better look.

Plus, the V1S is spill proof

Yeah, that 9-cell alone is worth well over a hundred dollars. Plus, if you've ever used an Inspiron laptop before you know that it's chassis is crap. I will never, ever buy that plasticy, flexy mass of Dell.
