I just got a V6J from eWiz and I absolutely love it! It's very sturdy, thin, powerful and the screen is impeccable. The asus startup screen is snazzy too.![]()
I'm glad I went with Asus.
What more could I ask?
The only question I have is regarding the hinges- they are small and quite stiff, which is good, but when I open or close the notebook there is slight creaking at first, and then it will smoothly close or open the rest of the way. The sound seems to come directly from the hinges, not the lid or chassis, which are too sturdy to creak much (especially the lid).
Is this creaking normal? I had a dell before and the hinges were silent. I'm not worried about the creaking noise itself, just that it might be an indicator of failing hinges, which would admittedly be pretty strange in a new computer.
How frequent is it to have problems with hinges? They seem like the most vulnerable part of the V6J, as the screen will be fine if you're reasonably careful, as will the hard drive etc, while the hinges are being used all the time.
Thanks,
Cyrus

No creaking here, perhaps they need to be worn in?
So far, no problems, they were not even a concern to me at all. Perhaps a screw or a part was assembled a bit too tight? -
There are very small (brass?) screws on the notebook lid righ where the hinges are. Does anyone know if they adjust tightness of the hinges or just take the lid off?
The hinges are pretty tight, but I like them that way, unless that would damage the notebook. Coriolis, are your hinges so tight that when you lift the notebook lid up a bit from the magnetic latch, you need to use your other hand to hold the chassis down to continue opening the lid?
I'll keep using them and report back if the creaking persists. I wonder what the hinges are lubricated with...

The hinges on my V6j are tight enough that I use both hands to open the comptuer. I don't ever remember any squeaking, give it a few days, if it doesn't go away, call Asus.

Creaking is fine... I think it's the plastic part trying to compensate the rotational forces of the steel hinge.
Don't be too picky... my V6V does that too... -
No creaking here. Two hands necessary for opening. V6J.

I’d also suggest you just give it time and see how you go
