Hi,
Ive had a V6 for a week now and quite happy performance and look wise, but I a little disappointed with the assemble quality. I wonder if anybody had a similar problems:
1. First thing when I got V6 I realized that the keyboard bended on one side. I looked closely and I realized that it wasnt sitting on one of the latches. I had to unscrew the keyboard and put it back again so it clicked on all 4 latches, so its o.k. now.
2. Also, I realized that when the laptop is closed, one side has a bigger gap than the other (almost 2mm!). And if you look closely its definitely visible!
3. The plastic strip (where power , wireless etc. is situated) isnt straight at all. Its slightly bended especially if you look at it from the top. The spot where the plastic strip meets the power button doesnt flash (because the strip bends and its a little higher)
Anyway, these things clear show the poor quality of assemble and quality control. I generally happy with the laptop, but I think when you pay that much for the V6 I would expect Asus to inspect them
Am I too picky? Has anyone had similar problems? Thanks!

I had a V6V for 4 days. A key jumped away (suicide, RIP)... after a long long story (you can read it in this forum //ASUS DOA?//) now I am using a W3V. (lucky me)

Well you can blame those who know laptops and deal with them everyday..... and the guys doing the reviews I guess. If you think the V6 is poorly made, I'd like to see the laptop that you find that's better.
Really, I would... because we'd sell anything that we could find that has a better build quality than Asus.
Thanks,
Justin

I have owned a V6 for about a month now and it does not have any problem like you described. Instead, I found the build quality to be quite good.
I am curious though. Was your V6 like that when you receievd it? Maybe you were unlucky and got a slightly faulty product? If that's so, I feel sorry for you. -
I don't think it has better build quality but I would like to be able to buy the MSI S270 somwhere when it comes out...

Well, first off... you didn't need to unscrew the keyboard to push it onto the latches..... and when you make a comment like "why sould I have to do that" ..... you don't, but you don't have to bath yourself either, but your choices are... pay someone to do it, or don't do it at all.... neither should be your number one choice.
It's almost as bad as what I heard the other day.... I heard from a customer who had a home theater system built..... "where's the modem?" ... to which I responded, you gave us the specs and when you have one pci slot and you want a tv tuner.... you're not going to be able to have a modem, but we didn't say one was in it, you didn't ask for one." To that the reply was "I would assume that's standard... it came with the power cord and that wasn't listed as in the specs." ...........
OK, so it's not like that....... BUT would you rather send the laptop back so they fix the keyboard and you could waste your time, money and be without your laptop over the silliest thing? It's about as bad as saying the battery should be shipped in the computer, since it's not I don't have the energy to do it myself. Now, if you weren't smart enough to figure out why it was doing that.... I could understand...... but you were. Now if you didn't quite get it till you took the keybaord off, them maybe I'd understand.
Thanks,
Justin

Well, I had a couple of laptops and I can honestly say that the build of V6 is pretty disappointing and Im only talking about the unit I got. Sure, it does looks like a BMW of notebooks from a distance but when you look at it closely you can see these little problems. Anyway, I only wanted to hear what others had to say, as I can always exchange it for another unit. Also, I believe most of these imperfections could be fixed by unscrewing things and putting them back again (like the keyboard).,but why should I be doing it myself .. Thanks.

Wow Justin, easy ! You dont need to defend my every post and go on the attack ! Did I blame you directly for these problems ? Also, you dont have to worry that some negative post about Asus product will jeopardize your sales .(at least it seems like). I thought this forum was a place to discuss problems like this. Anyway, the keyboard had to be unscrewed, because the latch was really inflexible and just pushing it down didnt do the job, but thats not the main point of my original post . Anyway, lets forget I every said anything .

That sucks. I would be disappointed too. The reason we all buy Asus is because they are supposed to have superior build quality. Mine certainly did. To have minor details overlooked, like the keyboard installed incorrectly or trim installed crocked, really sucks. I wouldnt accept a BMW with the console trim installed crooked. For that build quality, you could have saved hundreds and bought a Dell. I hope it all gets resolved for you. Your concerns are legit.

After reading your post i thing you have a genuine claim at an rma. I am not suggesting you return it for a refund. You should contact asus on this one with the aid of your dealer. You should seek a second unbiased oppinion on this. Let someone play with our laptop and see what they say. Would they notice? If you pointed it out would it bother. I ve seen similar things with built ons before. The 2mm gap is a little weird though. I have a hard time believing its a 2mm difference. You know pictures would help alot. Why dont you post some pictures and ask for everyones oppinions here. You have to understand why dealers are quick to defend asus. Things like the sparkly non-issue on the z71v, or the steaming egg frying palm rest on the w3v and other things that are ridiculous to complain about have us on edge. Really i would love to see some pictures. They speak more words then you can write about. Both i and justin would gladly back you up if this turned out to be a defective laptop and cosmetic defects can justify an rma even if you didnt buy it from either one. Show some pictures!!

Thanks Eddie,
I dont have a digital camera, on top of that I think it would be probably hard to see it from the photo (especially the plastic trim near the buttons). As to the gap I measured it with the ruler and one side is 2mm and the other 3.5mm, (and I didnt notice it first until my wife pointed it out to me). Anyway, Ill take it back to the dealer and let him look at it and decide. Also, from the couple of posts that we got in here it seems like an isolated case. I still like my V6 and I would never return it for a refund, because there is nothing out there that looks and performs that well, so for everyone thinking of getting one I still highly recommend it !

well, sounds like dlogic is just out to see if anyone has the same experience as himself with the build. I don't think he mean to generalize and say the V6V build is bad, but the topic might lead us to believe that. It's sort of impossible for every notebook a manufacturer builds to be absolutely perfect if there's people putting together certain components. Like dlogic, you just have to recognize if what you've seen in reviews or in person about the construction and it does not match yours then report it to the manufacturer and the test is how they handle such a complaint. Every manufacturer (and some more than others) have issues with now and again having a product that's not put together right (whether it be a laptop or a car). The key is having quality control that prevents too many such products getting out into the wild.

Hi there
I would be pi55ed to say the least about the keyboard not being fitted right!
As for the back trim, yeah when I look really close mines not dead stright either, not that I noticed till now! Its not noticable till you get really close or run your finger up and down over it, then you can feel some "wondering" of the trim.
Like I said, I'm not going to worry or notice it.
The screen thing is not good and that unit would be going back for an exchange.
Cheers and I hope it all come right for you because my V6 has given me alot of plesure and satisfaction. -
Hi Folks,
After taking my V6 to a dealer and looking at other unit it was clear that the unit I got had some quality problems (especially, closing gap became really apparent). I RMA the unit and yesterday received a new replacement from Asus, which has no assemble flaws I had mentioned before, so there you go. (too bad I didnt take it back right away, as I have to install everything over again). Anyway, its good to have it back []

D - see... told you... it's not good that you had to get it replaced, but you didn't get like 1 in 10,000 defect... I'm glad everything's cool now.
Thanks,
Justin
