I'd like to purchase the V6J, but want a port replicator. The V6J does't support a port replicator, can I use a USB port replicator? Does anyone have any experience with the USB port replicators? Do they work as well and and what would be the best one to use for this notebook?

They are fine unless you need to attach a external monitor to the port rep because usb to VGA just sucks.

SRD, thanks for the reply. Hooking up the monitor is exactly what I want to do, I have a very nice 19" monitor that I wanted to conect to the port replicator, along with my scanner, printers (2) mouse and keyboard. When I go into the office, I would only have to conect one usb cable to my notebook and be ready to go. When you say that usb to vga sucks, do you mean just playing video, or everything? I don't do a lot with video at work.

Everything not just video. At least from what ive read. Even moving windows around has lag. plus the you can only run at like 16bit or less at the native rez of your 19in monitor. so its pretty horrible.

The port replicator would still be nice for the other devices, you would get down to two things, or just get some USB hubs assuming its all usb devices.

The Targus USB Port Replicator does as good a job with video (although there is some lag, but for business uses it is fine), and has audio ports as well.

Ive read about that some users have had issues. But if you can buy it from like amazon.com you can return if you dont like it. he has a 19in monitor though. IF you read the specs it might not support his native rez and it would be a lower color depth. So he needs to look into that.

I looked for same thing when I had a V6j on order ... and there are many reports that users returned the Targus because video was basically unusable

Whoever said it was basically unusable apparently had expectations that may not have been reasonable.

The Video is very usable. We use them in our office everyday and they work just fine.

The issue is what do you expect out of them, and what are you using them for. If you are using the external monitor hooked up to a Targus (or any USB port replicator) for gaming...it will be unusable. But if you are using it for office productivity applications, which is what most people use multiple monitors for, it is very usable.

What type of monitor do you have. Because if its a 19in wxga+ monitor the targus would not be usable for you.It doesnt support that high of a rez.

Video output will support the following resolutions and color quality:
    - 640 x 480: 8, 16, 32 bit color depth
    - 800 x 600: 8, 16, 32 bit color depth
    - 1024 x 768: 8, 16, 32 bit color depth
    - 1152 x 864: 8, 16, 32 bit color depth
    - 1280 x 768: 8, 16, 32 bit color depth
    - 1280 x 1024: 8, 16 bit color depth
    * The recommended Video/DVD playback is at 640x480 resolution. Higher resolution playback will result in lower video performance
