Seeing how asus doesn't have a live update feature that can scan your computer and recommend updates ,not sure how far back on the date I should go to put on updates/fixes for drivers.
I got the computer mid-march, and not sure how current the cdrom was.
Suggestions?

You don't have to update any firmware once the hardware work fine, but you still have to update some protection application software such as Anti-virus, service pack and security for Windows and so on....
-
Refering to drivers.

Are you sure you don't have a live update feature? My V6Va has a utility called Asus Live Update that can update the BIOS, drivers, and applications. See if your drivers/utilities CD has this program on it.

The Live update in the past hasnt been very reliable.
-
Since day one, live update program on the computer has never found an update to download. I've done it manually. I've heard the program is only for bios updates.
-
Agreed that live update does not find the updates (even bios) that are available on the asus support website. I think you are expected to just look there every once in a while. Maybe the live update thing is meant to only get super-critical updates, of which there have been none? Not sure.

Hmm so no one knows.
Maybe this live update has no reason to be installed if it's not used for anything worthwhile -
Maybe you're right. I wasn't aware the update utility didn't work very well.

I have never gotten any updates via the Live Update feature either. The only thing I have updated was the nvidia driver (noticed that it did fix the weird screen flicker you would get now and then). Hope that helps...if you discover any others please post them...Thanks

Here are the update i can think off the top of my head that you will need to cehck if you have the latest versions.
As people said, if it's working fine, leave it alone.
1) Motherboard Firmwaire update (hard to find)
2) Intel Wireless driver update
3) Graphics card drivers update
4) may want to look at updated synaptic drivers (prolly not needed)
5) Program updates, Windows, Anti virus, and various others
That's all i can think of.
Just look through ur stuff, and see if you WANT? to update or not...otherwise keep everything the same.
Usually if something big happens in terms of drivers, there would be a post here, and a long thread about it.
Thanks,

My reccolection is that January 19 is the date with the CD drivers. I figured that because that is the oldest date for the V6j drivers. Anything newer seemed to be new and I upgraded to those, but I admit it have been close to 1 month since I have done any of that.

Yeah, I've been trying to run live update for a while now...many times It says It can't connect to the server...and other times It says there's nothing for me to update...seeing as this is an older spec V6V, and I haven't updated any drivers or the bios in anyway since new, I thought It would find something...but nothing!!! Everything seems to be working fine, so I'm not too worried about it...but you'd think that if they took the time to design the program, and they still install it in every system, that it would actually be useful and do something on a regular basis.
I've been curious about this...It's good to know others with newer models are experiencing the same thing. -
i find this live update software of asus quite strange. i recently brought my 2-month old asus to the service center for some network problem. when i went to the service center to get the unit back, the tech said that he upgraded the bios to a newer version. even before this, i was always checking live update for anything new to upgrade (bios/drivers) from the current setup. but i always get nothing from it, as it says there's nothing to update. i dont think its working as good as windows update.
