Last Thursday my V6J returned from RMA (among other things) refurbished with a new case and LCD cover. I took this chance to make a few pictures of the notebook over the weekend. I've been wanting to do this since a year ago when I bought the V6J, but never quite managed to get to it. Maybe the level of general interest is now lower, especially since the notebook is EOL, but I think the pictures are still nice to have, since the V6J is the most beautiful and well-built notebook that I have ever seen.
So, enjoy.
1. Interior
Notice thinness and the hinge design, maximizing the use of the notebook surface. Palm rest is brushed aluminum, LCD edges are enclosed in carbon fiber. The striated pattern near the LCD is the top surface of the battery, to minimize height. Control switches are all seamlessly integrated on the slightly raised edge running along the length of the battery.

2. LCD enclosure
Magnesium. Notice status LEDs are replicated on the outside for visibility when notebook is closed.

4. Palmrest
Brushed aluminum. Notice perforations pattern hiding speakers, and seamless touchpad design with control LED.

Needless to say, if anyone can be inlove with a notebook, then I am inlove with my V6J. So you will excuse the (only very slight) bias in the title of this thread...![]()
Edit: as someone below suggested, I did a quick color correction to remove some of the yellow. I don't know if the result is better (it's certainly less consistent among pictures) but here it is.

It is truly a beautiful notebook. Makes me wish I went with a notebook with a higher build calibre.

Biased user here, yay

Those pictures are nice (not to discredit you E.B.E.) but they still don't do this computer justice. I wish mine didn't have all of its scars though. Oh well.
-
It's much prettier in real life, I agree with that.
-
Plus you seem to have taken the photo without flash but with a yellow bulb. You should apply a white balance correction, it will look better I think.
-
Uh I don't know about that, the V6 has a bit of "coldness" to its looks, I think the yellow helps with that (being a warm color).
Besides, I've put enough time into this as it is. But I can provide the originals if anyone wants to work on them. -

Your V6J has a matte screen? I thought "Color shine" was standard, but I might be wrong...
-
the V6J came with different screens depending where you live. and it is a beautiful notebook. out of all the ones ive owned the V6Va and The W2V are the best looking ever.
-
I have to say that I have had my V6J for exactly 1 year and I love it! I just replaced the battery...and I ordered 2 gigs of memory (arriving Wednesday)...I keep loving it more and more for it's style!

Reminds me of a larger version of my Z33...
I think the entire model line from that time period about a year to a year and half ago was probably the best looking set of notebooks I have ever seen. The V6, W3, S5, M5/Z33, all looked just wonderful. -
The under-lit touch pad is pretty slick. If it had the same for the keyboards, it'd be icing on the cake. ASUS has a nice habit of keeping the aesthetics simple, though. For example, Alienware's are alright, but rather gaudy (and pricey).
-
No, light under the keyboard would be "gaudy"
Even the light under the touchpad might be too much for some, I've got used to it though.
No, part of the charm of the ASUS notebooks is precisely this: style without kitsch, nothing gaudy, or as I used to say it, "all business, no sh_t". -
I dunno about gaudy... perhaps if they went for maximum bling like those gamers keyboards. Something like the MBP's keyboard backlight would work though.

I don't think a backlit keyboard would be good for the V6j. Thats just too much, and it would destroy the look of this computer, I think.
-
Yea, but it'd be useful.
The thing about the V6 is the thiness, and it should always be shown in every way possible -

Yeah. This computer is thinner closed than many open (just the bottom).
-
That indeed, but I think the greatest advantage is thinness combined with the way the surface of the laptop is used for the screen. That's what I love. There isn't any laptop out there that can offer you a 15" screen in a package this size.
And then there come in order: looks, build quality, performance. -
Some more....because I can
-
that really is an attractive laptop. i wish more came in just straight-up black (or really, just stuck to one color... i hate it when the plamrest and inner-lcd trim colors dont match)
-
That's a trick of the photograph. In actual fact, the V6 gives a very consistent overall color impression, the difference between the carbonfiber gray of the LCD frame and the black-brown palmrest isn't noticeable to a degree that it damages the looks. Everything seems a classy, all-business-no-s_it gunmetal gray.
-
Well, this must be fate. I've been away from these forums for quite awhile. I chose today to check in and I find this homage to the Asus V6. Brilliant! I've had my V6Va for just under a year and still love it. I upgraded the RAM, HD and wireless a few weeks ago. Of course, we V6Va owners have the added bonus of the IPS LCD which makes the notebook that much better.

Truly a gorgeous notebook, which only goes to show that notebook designers should always think of K.I.S.S. (keep it simple, stupid)!
-
The colours may not seem to match, but its anodized brushed aluminum, I don't care if it was pink - ITS BRUSHED ALUMINUM -
Hey Cori! Been awhile, huh? Too much work, lately. At least I've been able to get a lot of use out of my Asus. I laughed when our VP wanted me to start using a company Dell Latitude.
Dell? HA!! I spit at thee, in laughter!!
