Does anybody know yet what it addresses?
It sure would be nice for Asus to include that in the info, wouldn't it? I know that EVERYBODY ELSE in the entire computing world does!
Hope someone knows and spills the beans... and that it's heat and fan related.

yes, and what about the new Bios tools "AFLASH2 Utility, AFLASH2 Utility for DOS" or the new "Intel SeedStep Utility, Intel SeedStep Utility for Win2K".
I've already got the 1001A bios, so what the heck let you know in a minute. -
Hmmm, seems similar to the 1001A, fan still runs at only 1200rpm above 50 deg C and switches off at lower temps.
The stepping up of speeds as the temp rises doesn't seem to be there as I've just run mine up to 71 deg with a heavy load without a change in fan speed. The unit does seem to run slightly cooler but that might be the room temp I'm in.
Still at least I've got the lastest
Cheers -
I just installed the new BIOS. The temperature is a few degrees cooler while running Prime 95. Perhaps they just recalibrated the thermal diodes with this update.
With the cpu at 78 degrees the fan still reads 1,200 RPM. -
1200 rpm at 78... is that a good thing?
Is the machine running hotter than pre- 1001 bios?
Thanks for being the guinea pigs, guys. -
Yes is runs hotter with the 1001 (and 1002) bios, than with pre-1001 bios. (802 i think was the one before 1001). The fan never goes higher than 1200 rpm (silent......) and the maximum temperature i've read was 76 C.
By the way i've got the 1001 -
It is interesting that although I ran programs which kept my lappy going quite hard and the CPU was at 73 deg for an extended period, my palm rest did not get as warm as usual. Above the fan which was happily running at 1200 rpm the Alloy got warm/hot but not where my wrist are.
If this hold true its a major bonus!
On the down side it had hard time coming out of standby at one stage today and I had to hold down the power key to shut down. -
if the wrist area doesn't get as warm, that would be my holy grail. Everything else on the laptop is great, as far as I'm concerned.
Can you tell if this is actually happening, or wishfull thinking?
Let me/us know as you find out more.
