    Hi all,

can anyone answer a few questions for me?

I am in Australia and looking to get the V6V but after reading some of the posts on this site am a bit wary of the battery life. Apparently my model comes with a 4 cell battery which i have been told will last anywhere from 3-5 hours.. i would have to buy the 8 cell separately. does anyone know about this from experience? after looking at the design of the notebook and speaking to some retail staff we came to the decisions that the 8 cell battery would stick out the back of the body because it has been designed for a 4 cell. i thought maybe someone that owned a V6 with a 8 cell bat would know.

    thanks

Don't know about the V6v, but I have a ThinkPad with the nice cell battery which sticks out the back about 3/4 of an inch. Doesn't bother me at all. Would rather have the extra time than reach for the cord every couple of hours.

I have a v6v myself, but i don't have the 8 cell bat. First of alle, I don't think you'll be able to get 5 hours out of the standard battery. The longest i've heard of is 4.5 hours, and that's with undervolting and probably some other tweaking.

Now to the point. The 8 cell battery does not stick out at the back. I know this because the screen wouldn't be able to open if this was the case. If in fact the 8 cell battery is larger (which i think it is), it will have to be thicker, and setting your laptop at an angle.

    Natalie....

First.. I can tell you're not from North America because we only got the 8 cell battery....... the 4 and 8 are designed in the same shell. So your's is about 2/3 of the weight of the 8 cell... but obviously has 1/2 the life. The reason the US went with the 8 is because of the life and because you're only saving about a 1/4 pound going with the 4 cell.

So... basically... the battery is flush, both bottom and rear (it needs to be for the screen to clear it when open). If you're not from the states and need an 8 cell battery you may want to try your local Asus dealer first, but if not, you can always contact me and I could get our sales department to set up an international order for you.... we've got plenty of batteries for all of our units.

Actually.. here you go....... this isn't a perfect shot, but it shows the 8 cell at an angle... so you can see how it compares to yours. I have not used the 4 cell, but from what I can see when I compare that in pictures is that it's the same.... check the profile to verify though...
