Hey guys, I found this forum searching for ways to fix my current problem with my Asus V6V. I'm not very good with computers, and I hope this isnt the wrong place to ask this.

    The specs are as follows:

    Asus V6V
    2.13GHz Pentium M
    80GB HD
    1024 mb ram
    Ati Radeon X600 Gfx 128mb

I have no idea what the BIOS is or how it works. But it says something among the lines of:

    Manufacturer: American Megatrends Inc.
    Name: Bios Date: 04/25/05 19:03:59 Ver: 08.00.10
    Version: A M I - 4000525
    SMBIOS Version: 0801

I have read about downgrading to 801a or something is the best for its heat. I think I am already running that one though. I'm not sure.

I downloaded a couple of programs such as:

    Notebook Hardware Control:

Currently I have no folders open and msn/wireless running and this webpage on firefox, thats all.

    CPU Clock: 798MHz
    CPU Voltage: 0.796V
    CPU Speed: Dynamic Switching
    CPU Temp: 59 degrees celsius
    HD Temp: 43 degrees celsius
    ATI Core: 405.00MHz
    ATI Memory: 249.75 MHz

I don't know how to configure this program, so if anyone can offer some help thatd be really appreciated thanks.

    Speedfan says:

    Local Temp: 58 degrees celsius
    Remote Temp: 59 degrees celsius
    HD0: 43 degrees celsius
    Temp1: 71 degrees celsius

If anyone can help me that'd be really generous thanks. My laptop gets so hot on the top right area sometimes, I cant even hold my hand on it for more than 5 seconds without getting hurt. I'm scared to run 3D applications now because the CPU temp reaches above 80 degrees celsius & I heard its bad for it. Also, I am missing some drivers, because when we moved locations I must've left them there, if anyone could help me with the drivers for the following that'd be great.

    - Base System Device

    Device type: Other devices
    Manufacturer: Unknown
Location: PCI bus 3, device 1, function 3

    - Base System Device

    Device type: Other devices
    Manufacturer: Unknown
Location: PCI bus 3, device 1, function 4

Lastly, none of my little buttons work since I formatted, due to loss of discs supplied when I purchased the laptop. Help on that would be appreciated too.

Thanks a heap, Sorry for the large amount of aid required. :)

    Hey there.

When you are working with the notebook, is the fan on? The temperatures for light working is about right, mines is a few degrees cooler for the CPU but a few degrees hotter for the HD.

For the buttons, go to ASUS's site, then the download part of the site and download the ATK drivers, or any driver you require, it'll be on that site.

Control your fans with NHC... My laptop was 50-55c idle & upto about 80c full load but now its around 40-45c idle and 70c full load. I could make it even cooler but the fans would be too noisy for me.

Also if you don't play games with you laptop you can set AC & battery under powerplay to optimal battery performance. This will substantially lower the core and memory clocks. If you do play the odd occasion game you can always set AC back to optimal performance.

Last but not least if you haven't cleaned your fans/heatsink for a while then there maybe a lot of dust build up inside. Time for a clean...

That's pretty normal. According to NHC, my V6V does go to 70 celcius under heavy load (ie. cleaning up temporary files) but most of the time it's 50-55 celcius. I wouldn't say that the heat on the right palm rest is unbearable, but it does get hot sometimes because of the hard drive.

On some days I wouldn't mind because it's cold in the Winter... so a palm rest warmer is a nice thing to have.

those temps seem fine. Its a thin laptop. And dont use speedfan. Just use NHC
