Is it possible to get replacement panels? The one on my old V6V is dying (I'm up to entire 3 columns of pixels faulty), and I'm seeing what's possible with regards to replacing it.

Also, was there ever any fix for the battery wear issue on the V6V? My second battery is up to 47% worn after only 12 months or so :(

Generally speaking the V6v wasn't affected with the battery wear issue. I would recommend a new battery. 47% in my V6j was 3 months or less. I would start here is you plan to buy a screen. The good IPS screen is $375.

I want to vote in favor of the great IPS screen: super horizontal and vertical viewing angles in addition to excellent contrast, brightness, and color.

Cheers for the advice guys - I'm going to skip it for the moment as it's a lot of cash, but it's useful to know.

I cna however confirm that the V6V is affected by battery wear - my about a year old battery (the second one) has 47% wear :(

This is (relatively) normal wear for a medium-quality, highly-used LiIon battery. This is how LiIon batts are made nowadays, they are not supposed to last too long or else you wouldn't buy new ones soon, right?

47% worn after barely a year?! Seems a trifle excessive.

Depends on the usage pattern. Discharges/day, deep discharges or not, etc.

Hmm - I'm still going to take it with a pinch of salt given that none of the other (non Asus) laptops in the office have suffered, and the previous battery managed to drop to 40minutes of runtime remaining after about 18 months.

47% worn is around 2 hours (I think V6V batts last around 4hrs when new) which is consistent with 40 minutes after 18months.
