I was wondering If someone could update the model manuals in the Sticky's. I've been trying to find the V6V hardware manual and I'm having zero luck. The PDF's Asus offers in their download section don't even seem to be available.

The reason I want to see the manual is to get to the bottom of a memory question. My V6V has/shows 512MB listed, so I opened up the bottom panel just to make sure It was empty/available for an upgrade. To my surprise, the 512MB stick was in there. I was under the impression that Asus normally puts the factory memory in the slot under the keyboard and leaves the bottom slot empty or fills them both. When I saw the memory stick in there, I figured they must have split the sticks, giving me 2X256MB of RAM to make up the 512MB that Windows is showing. But the stick in the bottom is a 512MB stick, so now I'm thinking that the slot under the keyboard is the one they left empty. I tried getting off the keyboard to take a peak, but I just can't manage to find one of two hidden clips it would seem. I've located all 4 at the top and pushed them in, but I'm still experiencing resistance somewhere, I just can't figure out where It's coming from?

To all the retailers out there or anyone in the know, can you clearify the memory setup, I always thought Asus leaves the bottom slot empty, unless both come occupied? Once I get the keyboard off/find a manual to do so, am I going to find that slot empty?

Some input would be most appreciated...It would also be great if someone could post a link to the V6V's hardware manual...or somehow upload it to the forum. Thanks in advance. :)

    Hey CC.

Yea, sometimes they put it in the bottom, sometimes under the keyboard, it's kinda strange. My friend's V6v is under keyboard, another's W3v is also, but my V6va is at the bottom.

And you have taken out the screws marked 'K' at the bottom, correct?

    I thought that the V6v has a DDR2 configuration so I figure 256MB x 2?

Why is it that there is a RAM slot under the keyboard instead of putting the two slots side by side?

MAN, that has to be it, I only got the one on the right!!! I didn't even notice there was another one. I already put everything away and I'm tired now, but that has to be it. No wonder I couldn't figure out what was causing that last little bit of resistance! Like I said, that obviously has to be it. If I had the manual to consult, I would have noticed right away. That's what makes this forum so useful, in the absence of a hardware manual, I have a Coriolis!

I'll do the whole thing tomorrow and post my results. The randomness you mentioned is news to me, I was always under the impression they followed a strict placement "policy" with regards to factory installed memory...oh well!

    Thanks again. :)

PS, I still wouldn't mind a copy of that hardware manual from anyone with an online version of it. Thanks.

I've only been able to get these to DL through my home connection, and can't remember which server I ultimately used to get it, but I had the same problem with accessing the pdf files and it took a few tries over several days. Their Download section even seems to crash occasionally and directs you to reload using another server due to overusage. I only have the W3 manuals, sorry.
