Hey guys, I've got a V6Va, which has a drive advertised as a DVD+R DL drive. I went out and bought Memorex DVD+R DL discs and tried both Nero and Alcohol, but failed to burn! Alcohol gives me a "Power Calibration Area" error. There is no updated firmware to be found for this drive (Mat****a UJ-832S). Has anyone else had this problem, and is there a fix, or is my drive busted?

There could be a bunch of method to help aleviate this problem, however this is somewhat common according to this thread.
1) Use better quality media
2) Use different software or a lower version of Nero if possible
3) Clean the lense.
4) Check this out:

Hope this helps. Let us know what you've tried. -
According to that thread, memorex is pretty high quality media. I've tried 2 different software. I want to try to clean the lens. What is the best (and safe way) to clean the lens? Do I just wipe it with a damp cloth?

You may also want too look at this:

Also restart the laptop, put in a blank CD or DVD and try to burn on it, maybe and sometimes a laptop/computer just needs a restart for the Rom do to its job. -
I'm having this issue with DVD+/-rewriteables on my V6J. Same model of writer. I believe power calibration errors are caused by wrongly configured firmware on the writer, and cannot be fixed by cleaning the lens.
I also did not find a firmware update for this model of drive, it seems that for Mat****a drives updates are difficult to find.
I would be wary of cleaning the lens, it's easy to do more damage than you fix. As said before, I don't think the error has anything to do with a dirty lens.
As to trying different software: I've tried 5 burning softwares under Windows and 4 under Linux, and the same error pops up. So it's definitely not a driver/software issue.
I really think it's a firmware issue, and the only way to fix it is either a firmware update or the physical replacement of the drive (which might not even solve it if the new one has the same firmware). -
I just cleaned the lens, and it didn't work (used q-tip with 91% isopropyl). I'm going to wait on ASUS tech support to see if they can point me to some new firmware, or a replacement drive.

Please return to this thread an post any working solution that they give. I might be able to apply it to my issue. Thanks in advance.
