I understand the V6Va display has Color Shine but not Crystal Shine. What exactly does that mean?

I'm looking for the best display I can find. What will I be missing without Crystal Shine?

    Thanks!

EDIT: John from Star Tech says that it has Ace View which provides better viewing angles.

Hmm... I kinda thought they were all the same, just with different names for it. I just call it "Glossy". There's like X-brite, crystal brite, brightview, clearbrite, trubrite, super view- the list goes on. Some are known to have more contrast than the other. I think the Crystal view is one of Fujitsu's "special" names.

It appears that Asus offers Crystal Shine, Color Shine and Ace View. Ace View includes the Crystal Shine plus has better viewing angles.
The V6Va comes with Color Shine and Ace View. Confused? Me too.

Yeah, well they can steal that info from me here on the forum.... but I've mentioned this many times already...

The screen on the V6va is technically an update to Asus' ACEview... those screens sported IPS (in-plane switching) technology. Since Asus now have the "color shine" screens which are cheaper glaretype displays (basically what everyone else has), this is being touted as "color shine w/ IPS". Which is essentially the same as ACEview, but keeping the new name of the series.

Crystal shine is technically part of ever Color shine screen.......... Crystal shine is "high brightness" and nothing will have a higher brightness than a color shine screen, especially with IPS.

The V6va in the US right now only has the top end screen "color shine w/ IPS" for the time being. Asus has said this will be short lived as these screens are expensive and are in low supply..... but for now, to make you a little less confused... just know that this is the BEST screen you're going to get and it is glaretype, has HIGH brightness and HIGH viewing angles.

Since I´m from germany and want to buy a V6Va I´d like to know how the screen is like if it is not the colorshine one.
It seems the V6Va´s here dont have the Colorshine display since in the official Asus Notebook flyer it says:
    V6VA: 15” TFT (SXGA+, 1400x1050)
    and for others
W3V:14” TFT WXGA, 1280x768 Color Shine
A6VA:15,4“ WXGA Color Shine Glare Type
    V2Vc:17,1” TFT WSXGA+, 1680x1050 Color Shine

Im pretty confused now. It seems the display on the V6VA over here ist not the glare type one but the newer/cheaper? one. Id really like to know how the quality of this screen is.

Id really appreciate any Info on this.
    Thanks in advance. :)

Well in Germany if it's still a matte type display, then you have the screen that was on the older V6va... in the US the updated it because it was one of things people said they'd like to see be better... but I can only speak for the US' reasons for upgrading it.

Them it might be changed her too in the coming weeks. This could be reason to wait. :)

How was the matte display regarding brightness/contrast and viewing angle?

    Older V6v screen: 15.1" SXGA+ matte type

Brightness is about +/- 400 nits
Horizontal viewing angle: +/- 160 degrees
Vertical viewing angle: +/- 55 degrees

    New V6va: 15.1 SXGA+ glaretype (colorshine w/ IPS)

Brightness is about +/- 500 nits
Horizontal viewing angle: +/- 175 degrees
Vertical viewing angle: +/- 175 degrees

    Thanks again.

I´ll ask the vendor if they know about a new screen in the future because its clearly the better choice.

Sadly none of the Vendors in Germany knows about a change of Displays in the V6Va. So I guess I have to go with the matte display when I prever the V6Va.

But now that I have read other opinions about M6Va (Z70Va) I am not sure if that might be the better machine for me. You would help me once again if you could also supply me with the data about the screen on the M6Va. Is the vertical viewing angle on the M6Va probably better than the one on the V6Va matte display?

I will take a look at the M6Va today but cannot compare to the V6Va since that is not available in any store around.

Does somebody know the vertical viewing angels of the Z70VA? You would really help me alot in deciding between this and the V6VA.

You're looking at very good to excellent between the two. It's always been unfair to compare a widescreen and regular ratio screen in terms of vertical viewing angles........ because the regular ratio was always going to be much worse.... until now.

The Z70va is like 120 degrees and the V6va is about 170......... both the best in the business in terms of the type and size of screen they have. That along should not be your deciding factor though. Both have vertical viewing angles well beyond what anyone should need to use - plus they have hinges which is one reason lcd companies didn't focus so much on the vertical until recently..... Pick based on the type of screen you want..

Would I be able to play games in widescreen resolution from a v6va to a widescreen lcd if I get the vga converter? Sorry, but wasn't sure if the TV would convert the resolution. And how much longer will this screen w/ IPS be available on the v6va proportable? I might have to put an order in before the holidays if they're going to be running out.

    Thanks

Yes, the output res and ratio on all of the notebooks is independent of the screen's res and ratio..... you can output a lower or higher res and widescreen or regular ratio... regardless.

Asus said it's most likely going to be a single shipment..... so I wouldn't expect it to last the month... maybe another 2-3 weeks, but I can't speak of anything after that. I know that we've got one more big shipment of them coming in around mid week and I was told not to expect anymore with IPS screens much after that...just depends on when their US stock depleats again and they have to order more in.

... Just a side note, I'll mention this again in it's own thread, but for Holiday gifts and what not, December 20th is just about the last day you can order an in-stock Ensemble and get it by Friday the 23rd (if you FedEx 2Day).... Just something to keep in mind.
