This question is mostly for Justin from ProPortable
Is it possible to configure this notebook?

I'd originally been leaning toward getting a w2j but the v6j looks really appealing.. (other than the t2300...)

No......... I'm sure someone will offer it, but you'll be voiding Asus' warranty and then obviously can't purchase their extended warranty..... The difference between the cpus is really moot.... 1.6 to 2.1 is compared prett similiarly to a 3.0 to 3.4 p4...... not a whole hell of a lot of difference except in price.

You can upgrade the ram. They will not void it for that but you will need to remove the extra module you added in case of rma.

Alrighty then... hmm is it worth it to get that now (v6j) or is there another option from Asus that'll be available fairly soon? (with core-duo)

Right now I've got a dell 5150 (2.5 years old) 3.06 with HT and 1.5gb of ram... I usually am using close to that amount (running MS-Sql server, Oracle Lite (at times), Lotus Notes, MyEclipse, and a few instances of VS .net)....

I'm looking to replace this, but I want a nice screen I've got the UXGA 15" on the 5150 and I guess I can live with SXGA+... but UXGA or greater would be good too....

The w2j looks pretty good also.. I'm not so sure if I want a subwoofer on a "work" notebook though :)

The V6j is core duo - incase you think it's not.. just based on how you said it...

You're not going to get anything about an SXGA+ screen on an Asus notebook at this time.... the V6j is a great system.

Does the V6j have a memory card reader? I didn't see it listed on any specs for it.

It does, SD, MMC, MS, and MS PRO, same as the V6va :)

So anyone have one of these in hand yet with some benchmarks? I'm currently eyeing one to replace my primary development machine (similar needs as original poster).

Also, does replacing the hard-drive void the warranty? Is it an SATA or IDE hard drive?

    [EDIT] Numbers here: http://www.notebookforum.ca/phpbb2/docs/Benchmark.htm#V6J

Interestingly, it's only slightly faster than 2.13 GHz W2V (calculating pi) and does worse in the graphics deparment, even with the Go 7400 vs older X700.

It's an IDE, PATA hard drive.

The 7400 is a card of similiar calibre to the x700, though a tad slower.
