    Hi all,

i am just about to purchase a v6j from asus and noticed that the keyboards on two screenshots i was looking at were different...

what was changed was the return key. one had an L-shaped key and the other had a doubled sized key like a backspace button.

is this a region issue? verison issue? luck ofthe draw issue?

i would like to get an L-shaped type.. so if someone could let me know whats going on that would be great

    cheers!

Region issue - dependant upon what country you're in and buying it from.

BGM, not sure where you're writing from. I'm in the USA and got the double-width enter key which is about the same shape as Backspace or Shift keys (in other words, not L shaped). If you are in USA or Canada I assume you will get the same.

Good keyboard quality and layout IMO, though I'm less picky about keyboards than I am about other aspects of a laptop so you may want someone else's opinion.

i am in the UK and asus uk have confirmed to me that the keyboard comes with the double sized return key.. its not a big deal but if the option were there id have the other!

    On a similar note:

    the specs sheet lists.. Intel® Core™ Duo Processor T2000 Sequence: 1.60GHz-2.16GHz, 2MB On-Die L2 Cache, 667 MHz

is there a chouce between CPU?

    and

    15" XGA / SXGA / SXGA + Color Shine(optional) LCD
    Zero Bright Dot

i would prefer the non glossy screen,

again.. these points are minor but id like to know if there are options :)

    cheers

Maybe one of the resellers on the board can comment on the cpu/screen choices that you have (or don't have). I'm not sure if what you're looking at is what's available to consumers in the UK, or if that's just the sheet for what the model is capable of worldwide. In the USA/Canada, there is only one official model, which is the glossy screen and 1.66 cpu. Some people customize it, but then it's unsupported by Asus.

Personally, I like my V6J the way it came. I think if I had been given a choice, I probably would have gotten a faster CPU, but honestly I'm kind of glad I didn't, since the machine runs great as it is. Leaves more $$ to spend on RAM.

I've seen the V6J available in Australia with both the T2300 (1.66) and T2400 (1.83) CPUs. Since we often get items that are also intended for the UK/EU market, I wouldn't be surprised if these two models are also available there.

The only display I've seen on any V6J (Aus and international reviews) is the SXGA (1400x1050) glossy screen. Anyone seen another variety of screen?

I'd also double-check the supplied HDD if you get the chance. I've heard from another Aussie NBR member (guy's name is Seb) that the 120GB drive is a 4200RPM model... kind of disappointing for a machine that costs ~$3000 AUD.

:EDIT: I believe the V6J is reviewed in the June issue of What Laptop? magazine... you may want to look at that for more info.
