So the Volume Down Function Key doesn't work anymore on my V6j. I have checked and the F11 key still works properly (in Mozilla F11 goes to full screen, and that works from the keyboard with no trouble at all), but using Fn+F11 doesn't work. All the other Function Key combinations work, like Screen Brightness up or down, or LCD/CRT Toggle, Num Lock, Scroll Lock, not trouble at all. Volume Mute (Fn+F10) and Volume Up (Fn+12) all work. How can I fix this? I use that key combination a fair amount, and it seems to be a software related issue. Thanks for the help.

Well, I guess the first option would be to uninstall and reinstall ATK0100 :)

If that doesn't work, post back and we'll try another solution..

Tried it twice (downloaded from ASUS website) and it still doesn't work. Any other thoughts?

Hmm, it could be a faulty keyboard, check if it fully presses in - could have something stuck underneath.

I don't think it would be a faulty keyboard. I have tried pressing the key pretty hard, and it won't work with the Function Key, but as I said, it will work just fine by itself as regular old F11. Other thoughts?

So, the Fn+F2 doesn't seem to do anything either. I don't know what it is supposed to do (I would assume [based on the blue antanae] it is supposed to toggle wireless, just like the button above the keyboard), but it doesn't do anything.

Slightly off topic, but still related - I was planning to rebuild my hard drive, maybe this weekend. The question I have is, can I rebuild it in an external hard drive, so that I can quickly get back to my current setup, then put the drive it and have no trouble, or do I have to switch the drives? If I do this, that would help to verify the software as the problem, though, again, I still have trouble thinkin this is a hardware problem, unless I don't fully understand how a keyboard works.

Try switch in BIOS (F2 while restart) Numlock function (I don't know name of this entry now).

Wow - you got it. I was aparently wrong about what that setting did. I switched it back to enabled, and now the volume down works. So, what is Fn+F2 supposed to do? Any other V6j or V6va owners out there that know?

Hmm... if it's the same as on my Z63a, then the Fn+F2 is supposed to turn your wireless on/off

Thats what I would have thought, and I pulled up the manual for the V6 online and thats what it says its supposed to do as well. I don't think thats a big deal for me, because there is a dedicated button right above it that is more convientent, but the manual also doesn't have the Fn+F4 listed, which is also a hibernation key (which is weird, there are two Fn combinations that hibernate, and the power button, plus the start menu). Is there a way to configure the Fn Combinations within the ASUS program?

If none of the function keys are working, it's something in the ATK driver..... make sure to get rid of the old one first.... but it's not your keyboard and it's not something super complicated.... that driver and the one for powergear are easily corrupted every now and then.... not a big deal, but a pain when you don't know what's going on.

Don't know if this helps you at all....
on my V6J, hitting Fn + F2 goes from wireless + BT both on to only wireless on to only BT on, to wireless and BT both off.

Hmmm...Fn+F2 doesn't do that on my computer. It doesn't seem to do anything. I might investigate that a little bit more later, but for now I have things working the way I need them to. Thanks for the input.

FN+F2 never worked on my Z70Va, even off a fresh install, but no biggy because we have a dedicated button for that, anyhoo, a fresh install of the ATK driver should do it.

If not then should I assume you have an Intel wireless card? The new Intelproset drivers/software have problems with HControl.exe, which handles all the shortcut buttons and brightness/volume FN+ functions. Try going back to an older version of your Intel drivers, unless they fixed this problem in a recent release and I'm just talking poop outta my mouth right now.

    :D

Yeah, I don't care much at all about the Fn+F2 - everything else is working (on the keyboard) and now I have other fish to fry...my computer was chirping (yeah, you read that right) this morning, and I don't mean hardware...not good.

CalebSchmerge, please plug to your V6J headphones and test, if playing normal bass (compare with other computer). Because my V6J is without bass and tomorrow go to service (4 errors).

I have compared several times, I think the headphones and speakers I plug in sound the same in the bass department, overall the sound is cleaner from my V6j than from other computers I have had/used before. Good Luck.

Yeup that's one thing that's sooooooo annoying. Sometimes a bad driver install can just totally screw up the registry that you have to reinstall windows, so try that out as your last resort, because we all hate reinstalling windows and having to restore all our personal settings.

    Cheers,
    Mike

I'm finding on my v6j that the hcontrol is a real pita. It seems to die frequently...I'm using system restore a ton...kind of frustrating. I've read a little bit about this conflict between hcontrol and the intel proset.

Does anybody know if the problem is ultimately an intel problem or ultimately a hcontrol problem?

Is there any other way to control the functions on the function keys besides hcontrol?

Are you using the latest Proset? If so, you will have conflicts...
you'll have to revert back to an older version of Proset (preferably one of the versions that Asus has on their website) if you want to avoid conflict.

Either that, or wait until Asus releases a new version of ATK0100...

I might do a restore this weekend, kinda depends on what I am told about in the Chirping/Restarting thread, but thanks for the advice.
