Do you realize this is a super slim drive? The V6 now, has a 2x -rw drive and that is very good and PRICEY....... the 4x super multi (which is better than dual layer), had just come out and is actually more expensive than the 8x super multi slot drive that's in the W2......... this is the MOST expensive notebook drive out there.

Burning in the notebook is something to consider....... I'm with Loaf as regardless, a desktop drive that's faster and more reliable (and not to mention a 1/3 of the price) is going to be better for making serious multiple copies...... However, if you're on the road, there's still no better way to burn a dvd while you're on the subway or something if you need to make one for someone. There are a lot of features on a laptop that people will rarely or never use..... but all of them claim to need or at least really want them on their computer....... so it's there.

Um, just for argument sakes, V6va is a NON widescreen, the Z70va is Widescreen. So for those of you with a Widescreen, WHY would you switch to a V6va?

Also Is it possible for you to do a FULL review of this baby when you get it :D, Thanks!!!

    Thanks,

I won't never do a review because a review by someone who sold it would be view far from objective (even if it were).... I may be able to get one over to Andrew to amend his older V6v review from the spring. To do that though, there has to be plenty of stock to allow for us to set up a demo unit....... and right now, most of the V6va's that came in today are accounted for...... more are coming in on Wednesday and Friday and hopefully more by the middle of next week...... so right now this is a hot ticket and we need every one of them... at least this week.

personally, i wasnt looking for a widescreen laptop mainly because i'm used to my desktop's normal aspect ratio and cuz not all games do the widescreen thing very well. also, to me the only benefit of widescreen was movie watching and i wasnt very bothered with the black bars to begin with.

.... if you got to spend some time with the v6 and the w3..... you'll notice that the 14" widescreen of the w3 is the same width as the 15" regular ratio that is on the v6..... widescreen movies will physically be the same size... but you obviously have less height (and inch and half to be exact)..... there are certainly things that are pluses about both systems... but at this point, the colorshine screen and x700 graphics make the v6 basically very sharp and very powerfully........ yet is the thinnest and lightest 15" notebook on the market. This new model certainly has it's own market.

I actually prefer 4:3 screens, widescreens are not bad, but I use CRT's at school/work/etc. more often, and the transition sometimes annoys me :p

But for media, WS is way better

... It depends.. if you're talking about a 14" widescreen and a 15" regular ratio....... physically the movie watching is going to be the same. If you're more apt to that all the time, you don't need the extra footprint of the system. For me, I love my W3, but I don't really like doing certain office apps on a 14" widescreen, because a little more height would help. So.... for right now, for gaming and office work..... the V6v seems like the machine I may switch back over to, even if it is just for the next 3-4 months.

ah, coriolis i had no idea bro, hehe, now the question is what should i get? Widescreen or not? At the moment i have Zero problems with my Desktop Monitor 17" CRT running at 1152x864, the max resolution is 1280x1024.

As you already know coriolis, im basicaly gonna be purchasing a laptop real soon, within the week or so, and i was wondering, as a gamer, movie watcher, and a web surfer with MS word open, i thought i would benefit more from either a WS or NON WS beacuse all the laptops im considering have higher resolution.

My question is, If you get a laptop non WS, and run it at a lower NON WS resolution like 1024x768, will it look much worse?

BTW, can you post Exact Specs or Link to the US version of the V6va plz,

    Thanks in advance,

    MysticGolem

yeah, well anything under the native res isn't going to be great and typically a screen with that native res will look better than a one with a higher native res, that you drop down.

Look at our site, the specs are all updated on that US model.

oopse nevermind found ur website, but there's a typo, Processor is Sonoma not Dothan lol.
Hmm so this is the new ASUS style of selling ensembles, =\ no case, no 2 year warranty, no mouse.

Man if i were to get one of these i want the extended warranty.. can you add that to your site plz if possible.
Man i wish we got the Carrying case!! lol but w/e i guess most people just take thier own bag compared to the ones that come with the ASUS ones right?

Also do you think its possible to change the hard drive? or like do a trade? like the 100gb @ 5400 for your 80gb @ 5400? something like that?

Also what kind of stuff will VOID the warranty in terms of changing the parts, if it is possible.

    Thanks,

    MysticGolem

That isn't actually a typo, the processor is a Dothan and the chipset is Sonoma...I hate to be the one who asks, but is there any chance Asus will try to put an x700 in the w3v any time soon? Considering the V6va actually has a thinner chassis (although I guess it has a larger footprint), the w3v should be able to handle the x700 if the same new cooling system was used, shouldnt it?

fenderboy is right... there is no typo. There is no such thing as a Sonoma processor... the Intel Pentium M's with 533 FSB and 2M cache are just the newer Dothans.

If you are talking about a global market, this is definately not the case. I am seriously considering ordering this from Germany at the moment due to the fact that ASUS has become so cheap with their 4200 HD, no warranty, etc.
And seeing as I will be in Europe for all of next year, I'll have to fit in somehow :p

Any ideas when the v6va is being released in Canada?

Yes this is true for the V6VA-8003P, but not for the V6VA-8004P!
It makes sense that many people may not have ~2.160.00 euroes to put into a computer (the 8004P), it makes sense to have one that is not so fast (in my view), plus what's the point of all this RAM if you HD access speeds are horribly slow?

I'd take the 80G 5400 RPM over 100 clunker anyday. 80 is good enough for an OS and some music and one or two games/movies.
    Space is a dime a dozen now-a-days.
Not to mention the less RAM plus a "2 Jahre Internationale Garantie"
Seeing as you don't speak German, I'll translate: "2 Year International Warranty".
    http://www.asuscom.de/products4.aspx?modelmenu=2&model=780&l1=5&l2=26&l3=0

Seeing as the 8004P is only ~2.160.00 euros (incl. mws = all prices in Germany already have VAT included, which is awesome when purchasing anything)
So this is ~2900.00 CAD, using xe.com, I don't mind letting my relatives buy this and have one of them bring it to me when they visit this x-mas.

    Second option:
Pay 2500.00 (without tax) for the V6Va in Canada (whenever it finally comes out, it's like pulling freakin teeth trying to find this out, fyi). Not to mention having to replace the HD to something faster (which voids ****ty one year warranty) plus pay extra for a warranty that probably won't even be international.
So add the new HD plus warranty (which will be void I guess) plus tax.....and I'm guessing that this will come out to over 2900.00 CAD + problems.

Oh, and to top this all off, I get a "Optische USB-Maus und hochwertige Tasche" with the 8004P if I buy it in Germany,

and yes, you guessed it; this translates to usb optical mouse and quality bag.

Edit://put that in your pipe and smoke it!

I wouldn't consider it.... but my company does ship there every day.... I'd have you talk to our sales manager about that. His name is Sean and he's also my brother, you can reach him at the general sales email [email protected] and just put it attention to him.

no, using that very same site you gave, it comes out to
2,499.00 EUR Euro = 3,478.52 CAD Canada Dollars
    1 EUR = 1.39196 CAD 1 CAD = 0.718409 EUR

significantly higher than what you posted. Of course, if you don't like what's being offered in N.America, nobody is stopping you from importing it from Germany.

oh Goren, who actually buys striaght from asus.com? Or where did you pull that god forsaken massive price from?

    http://www.idealo.de/preisvergleich/OffersOfProduct/337557_-v6va-8004p-asus.html
    lowest price 2.179,00 EUR

    Cheaper still in EUR:
    http://www.guenstiger.de/gt/main.asp?produkt=371541

Yet another few around ~2.160.00 EUR
    http://www.preissuchmaschine.de/psm_frontend/main.asp?produkt=371541

    another around ~2.1600.00 EUR
    http://www.preis.de/katalog/bis_2,6_GHz/1|209|211.html

Go to www.google.de type in "V6VA-8004P preis" (without quotes) and go nuts. Remember all prices "inkl. Mwst 16%", which means VAT included.
    for instance:
    http://www.notebooksbilliger.de/pro...fcampaign_id=6de44006a117c6a8bf9a31d6cc8aaee2
is cheapest from pries.de (last link from above), has VAT included and only 7,90 EU for shipping.

Not to mention (the should be expected) international warranty, mouse, bag, faster hd and a faster cpu than the US model. Along with EU Polybrominated Diphenyl Ether (PBDE restriction laws) standards, meaning that I don't have to worry about neuro toxins in a computer I will be using almost every day.

If the Z70v/va are any indication (which they are)....... the heat honestly isn't much more and the battery life isn't much worse.... but like I said about the V6v...... you've got a LOT of power in a little thin system..... you can have almost anything, but you've got to understand the world isn't perfect and when you get the thinnest / lightest system and the most powerfull, you've going to be paying with something....... now, if this system was upwards of 3 grand (which sony or apple could easily, EASILY pull), then I would still expect great battery life and zero warmth...... Now, even though the price is only at 2 grand...... the battery life is still very good and the heat certainly isn't like a P4 system..... but you've got to expect more heat and lower life when you crank up the power when gaming or something like that.

Totally agree with you Justin, with the above post.

I was also considering the V6v before I got my Z70Va, but I went with a widescreen notebook. I'm used to a 17" CRT on my desktop at 1152x864, but once I got my notebook, HOLY CRAP, I freakin' love this widescreen 1680x1050 resolution.

To me personally I just feel less constricted, and can move more freely side to side, plus movies look great on this baby. I tend to use my Celia(notebook) more than my Callisto(desktop). :D

    Sorry Callisto :(

    Cheers,
    Mike

Dude, awesome post, just make sure you can prove to them at studentbook.de that you are infact a student though!

Personally, if I can buy from student book, I will buy the X50 2130, up to 12 hour battery life, plus finger print locking and an S-ATA HD, man, that is just sick.

I don't think anyone will actually go to Germany.......or maybe that's how you joke; if so, ha.......ha.......
Shipping a new idea for you? You can fill in the blanks.
And sorry for "jacking" your thread, I will let you shamelessly self promote your selling of the V6Va....
God forbid I talk about another brand of laptop in the asus forum.

As far as I know, that "new heat pipe" isn't limited to any specific model number; it should be on ALL V6Va's.

oopse pro portable, wasn't trying to hinder the V6va US model, or Pro Portable, i was acutaly showing a comparison.

basicaly Germany gets the awsome X20, but now since US markets have the awsome V6va, man just get the V6va.

And basicaly the V6va-8003p is the same as the US V6va, also YES all V6va should have the new heat pipe thing for better cooling.

As for reviews, i haven't found much hype of the german V6va-8003p, all the germans want the X20 lol.

As for the X50, NO it does NOT have 12 hours batterylife, its a huge type, it gets about 3.5 hours depending in underclocking and brightness.

And yes the V6va is basicaly the BEST Road Warrior you can get Right now, from Pro Portable at $1999 USD.

We all have some high hopes for it to be Cooler, Quiter, Better in performance, and its thin and light :D good job ASUS and mucho thanks to pro portable with info of its release in the US :D

Man i still wanna see a review !! LOL

    Thanks,

    MysticGolem

To the new guy above.... I started a thread about the US version of the V6va and how it is now available......... If you want to talk about importing a notebook, you should also talk about the cost of not only shipping (which, yes... I've heard of), but also duties, because duties will kill you.

OK, well I said I wouldn't do a "review" of the V6va...... but I finally got a chance to get one out of the box and try it out myself.......... The colorshine screen is just as nice, as that on the W3 (this should impress who prefer this type of screen) and the updated super slim drive makes this a much quicker and capable burning system..... not to mention the 128mb X700....... I think I'm going to throw a 100gb/7200rpm seagate in here and take one for myself. I still love the W3, but the V6va is almost like if the V6v, W3v and Z70va all got together and out came this one... I don't need the power, but it's unbelievable that they were able to make these updates.

Yeah, next week we should have enough that we can spare one to start to demo it..... I'm pretty sure no one is going to be able to get this one out of my death grip... but Andrew has been very very good to the last couple laptops he's reviewed, so I might just send him over mine if he can be quick about it.
