Aren't VBI resellers able to ask for 15.4 WXGA (1280x800) matte screens on models like the S96J, TW3A, HEL80 to their provider?? (Actually the TW3M is being sold in matte, therefore the TW3A should be available in matte as well, right?)
The S96J, TW3A, TW3M, HEL80 support 4 different screens according to this Intel vbi interchangeability matrix.
And I've seen that at least the Quanta QDI QD15TL02 and Chi Mei CMO N154I1 screens (in 1280x800) are available on the net in matte (and in glossy as well) from LCD specialists!

Any reseller in the know wants to chime in? Resellers outside the US are welcome!![]()
(Looks like the glossy trend in the States is still too powerful!! Somebody tell the gamers that "All that glitters ain“t gold"...lol)

Technically, yes, if the VBI standards are correct.
There is also the problem of dismantling the whole notebook just to get at the LCD. -
Who gets to choose which of the 4 available screens from the vbi matrix ships with the S96J, HEL80....?
If this is only a "problem of dismantling the whole notebook" , then how about charging a premium for swapping a glossy for a matte? -
Currently the VBI reseller has no choice how the notebooks come. There are only two distributors to buy from and Yes the LCD is already installed. The reseller chooses the LCD by sku number of the chasis model. Out of the 11 current VBI models only the SW1 is available in matte. There are only two LCD sceens for the VBI's right now both 1280x800 only. There is no date on when other screens will be available and as of right now there are no replacement screens sku'd up. There is talk about a 1440x700 and replacement LCD to be available in the next 90 days. As a reseller I can tell you we do not want to be installing LCD screens for each install not only is it time consuming is cuts way into margins. From a support stand point it is great that all the notebooks support LCD screens. Eventally as VBI progresses there will be many many differnt sku's for all the parts and you will be able to purchase replacements parts very very cheap.
Also Intel's documentation on the VBI's online are not all correct. Intel has alot of issues they are working out with this program we have had to made alot of phones calls and research to know exactly what each notebook has and what the specs are of each.
If you want more info on VBI PM or email me we are a VBI reseller.

i would say that the best thing about vbi is the ability to replace the lcd if it fails.
and i guess even have a market to sell the one you dont want. Im thinking diy.
so as opposed to having to buy the notebook with the lcd you need you could perhaps change it someday. -
Thanks for the very informative reply, XCS Systems1!
Just what I needed to know.
Well I guess I'll have to wait a little bit then...
This VBI thing looks really promising, on paper at least, but it's still pretty new so to speak, so there's hope all these little things get ironed out in time and the serious screens (matte that is) get back in the game
cheers!
