VBI means Verified by Intel. We will see BTO notebooks from Asus, Compal and Quanta in even couple of weeks. VBI models will be exchangeable with the following 7 parts: HD, Optcal Drive, LCD screen, top cover, AC adaptor, battery and KB. You can order these parts from intel or any dealers. The VBI models will be warranteed by Intel instead of these 3 manufacturers.

Asus has 4 models in the list now, S62Fp, S62J, S96F, S96Js. No matter 14” or 15.4”, all WXGA for the purpose of interchangability.

For VBI models, prices of barebones should be about 10% cheaper. You might loose some higher resolutions and TPM feature comparing with Asus barebones. T – trust, P – platform, M--???.
It is a on board chipset for stronger security features.

Again, I attach the table for easy understanding

Yeah I'm wondering how this is going to work out myself..... Intel wants to say it's going to make for more interesting and easily upgradable and customizable systems..... From what I've seen, it's going to make for very similiar systems by various makers... but they're going to make for more affordable systems for everyone.... I guess that's a plus no matter how you look at it.

I think so too, the CBB will loose the laptop's personality, but this is what Asus notebooks are good at, for being generic and low budget, who can beat Dell and Acer?

They're final.... and that sort of spec needs to be finalized way before production.... it's usually configurations of ensembles that can't be trusted, barebone specs are always good because they can't change from the demos..

Same here... what does ACI mean? I'm guessing they're supposed to be better build than the VBI models? That accounts for the 10% increase in price?

TPM is Trust Platform Module, it is a chipset on the mainboard for better security features, on VBI models, you can use software to do it to save hardware cost.
