Hi, received my VIJP a couple of days ago but was really disappointed with the screen, look at the attached file.
1. Left and right corner at the bottom, there is small areas where the screen is much darker about 25%. I have not seen this on other notebooks.
2. At the top right area, 4 light spots are clearly visible in bright daylight. This is maybe a common problem in a dark room.
3. Overall the screen isnt very bright.
Is this a common problem with VIJP screens?

What are you comparing the V1JP's screen to? Also do you mind taking pictures of the screen in those particular instances as your mentioned.
Run everest to see what screen you have, just to make sure. Do you notice anything odd when using the screen for gaming, movies and just regular uses? -
Attached a pic taken at my office with lights on.
You will se the dark areas, the 4 light spots.
Havent watched a movie, played game yet.
I have been using notebooks less expensive with much better screens.
The thing Im most concerned about is the dark spot in the corners.
When the screen isn't totally dark you will se the thing I have mentioned above with the lights on in the office.Attached Files:

That's horrible. Call Asus and have them give you a new screen. Send them those pics if you have to.

Ok, I see, the V1JP shouldn't have this kind of problem, that is very odd.
Check your laptop for any other problems aswell, do try movies, and games if you get the time.
You do have the option of sending it for repair and state specifically that the screen is exhibiting darks spots, lights spots.
How about a picture of a total Black screen, do you see light leakage and white spots? Mind taking a picture of that too please. -
Pic taken with at black screen, room isn´t totally black.
I had to brighten up the pic alot in photoshop so you could see the light leakage.
I will call Asus and send them the pics I have taken.
There is no light leakage in the corners at the bottom at the screen.Attached Files:

To be honest I don't see any light leakage there, but i'm sure in real life it is noticeable in your case. But that first picture is it quite evident there's something odd with that screen.
-
Yes that is the problem, when the screen is black the light leakage is almost invinsible, off course you wouldn´t se the dark areas. But when you are working with the computer, things I have mentioned before is obvious for my eyes and even my colleague eyes.
Thanks for your reply! -
I'm interested as well in the model of your screen. Go to Device Manager (you can do this by right clicking on the My Computer icon, then click on Properties, then the Hardware tab, then click on Device Manager). In Device Manager, click on Monitors, then right click on Plug and Play Monitor. Click on Properties, then the Details tab. The model number is right after Display\. Mine is CMO1523 which is the only model number I've heard of for the V1JP or G1.
The dark corners look very much like the corners of the screen in my Dell d820 that had an LG screen which I sent back. YOur first photo also looks a lot like that LG screen (and similar to the Samsung screen I had before that) I ran Dead Pixel Buddy to get an all white screen on the CMO1523, and I definitely have no sign of the dark corners. I would get the screen replaced. -

My info says: DISPLAY\LPL1179
The brand is LG Philips
Anyone else with this LCD Screen? -

The same could be visible with the following models
z70va, z71v, w7j, a8j, and many more
all different screens. you know as someone said above. during normal usage stuff like this is hard to notice. Asus may change your screen and you may or may not get a better one back. the one you get back may have a dead pixel or uneven backlight or any other issue. This affects every manufacturer who uses these displays. Its all in the manufacturing process of the screen. they are not perfect. w7j even comes with a warning inside the notebook that addresses a similar issues it hink its called v-cut technology. the thing is lcd's today are brighter more vibrant vivid and better in every way from screens years ago or even last year. you will always find something uneven. -
It really looked like an LG like I said, but I didn't really expect I was right. I've never heard of that screen being used in that model - only the CMO1523. The CMO is as close to a perfect monitor as I have ever seen. If you look at the Sony FE in the store it is just like this screen except for the resolution. I would take a look at the FE if you have one nearby and if you like it better, I would at least try to get them to swap your LG for the CMO screen.
I'm going to add your info to the screen thread.
By the way, eddie that posted above, has a forum on his site with videos of different models. If you take a look at the video for the Z96J and the G1 that is the same screen as I would have thought you'd get in the V1JP based on earlier reports.
I attached a copy of your photo as shown on my screen so that you can show Asus the difference.

Thanks for your advice, I will send ASUS your picture and tell them to swap my screen to a CMO1523.
Looked at a Review for the ASUS VIJP with at CMO1523 screen and that is a glossy screen, my is non glossy. Maybe that is the reason why they changed the screen? -
I received my new Asus V1Jp few days ago and I'm glad to report that my lcd screen have no problems at all. I'm using "Dead Pixel Buddy" to test my case. (Google it) My screen is glossy. How do you find out the model of the lcd screen?
I recommend you to talk to Asus and get it fix. -
Could you please chech the name of your LCD screen.

Ah ha, mine is the same as the Asus V1Jp in the reviews.
When you call tell them you want that LCD model, explicitly. -
I looked back at your first posts and it looks like you are in Sweden - I had assumed you bought it in the US. Maybe the screen is different there. Is it a WSXGA+ screen?
-
-
Well different regions order their laptops with different screens. The North American V1Jp came with a glossy screen because Asus NA ordered them that way from Taiwan. What I'm trying to say is that your region may or may not have the CMO1523 screen available.
-
I don't think they will put in a that CMO screen since its a glossy one, and you have the matte version.... The best wsxga+ matte screen is a samsumg one, which the Compal HEL80 has.
-
I will call ASUS tomorrow and see what they will say about my complaints.
-
So, have all the V1JP's sold in Europe got the LG (non glossy) screen?
I would be buying it in the UK... -
I like my screen very much, the picture is very nice and clear and brigthness is also excellent
Although I have to admit, I would probably never consider purchasing an LG display. I just had too many problems with them in the past. Hopefully the display on the V1JP will prove my experience wrong. Although how tretjak's screen looks like does make me worry a little - hopefully that is just an isolated case and he gets it replaced. -
They will replace the screen.
Thanks for you help. -
You read reviews and you take for granted that the specs is the same all round the worldI better be carefull
Thats good news retjak... -

It would be nice if the specs were the same around the world, sometimes the Europeans end up with better specs than USA, and sometimes the other way around. This website is predominantly North American, it still provides viable information for around the world, but if you live in another country you will need to check things out for yourself, and even double and triple check everything.
I believe there was a user not to long ago who bought a G1 in another country and he ended up with a WXGA screen instead of a WSXGA+ because in that country that's what they sell.
