    Hi,

I've been trying to find info for sometime weather I can install a client hypervisor on either a G51VX or G51JX. I know XenClient is currently out, due to limited support on there RC, but that will change... the alternatives are KVM, Xen XCI, etc.

I however don't know if the laptops fully support VT-d. Can someone with a VX or JX let me know if the options are available in the BIOS?

Other than that, is anybody running any Type 1 Hypervisor on these laptops? perferable with (graphics) passthrough?

    Thanks,

I don't know how to use VT-d, but I see an option for it in the BIOS for the G51vx.

no BIOS option for VT on my g51j. any quick checks to see if it's enabled that don't involve dl'ing an entire software package?

edit: fwiw, virtualbox (64bit ubuntu host, 32bit winXP guest) worked with VT-x enabled.

Thank you very much for checking,

It should just be in the BIOS with VT-x, under advanced. VT-x is a different component than VT-d. VT-d provides PCI passthough, so you can for example have near direct access to your graphics card and install drives nativity rather than using emulation. It can speed things up dramatically for a virtual machine.

It is also hardware dependent, so what processor do you have in your J?

Just gone a quick check and the G51J has a PM55 chipset rather than the G51JX's HM55 chipset.

I've managed to find a post on another forum saying the HM55 has support for VT-d, but no info/confirmation regarding the G51JX?
