Huh? According to Asus, the VX2 Lamborghini will have the NVIDIA GeForce 7700 with 512MB of VRAM.

I thought they were going to put a 8000 series NVIDIA graphics card into it? Asus mentions the power of Windows Vista, but nothing about the DirectX 10 technology. Or is it a temporary "fill-in" until they decide which DX10 card to put in?

And it runs Vista Ultimate. That's interesting, no Home Premium.

The 7700 is for the Europeans and Asians, who get the VX2 sometime within the next two months. The 8x00 (likely the 8700) will be in the American model, along with Centrino Pro (Santa Rosa), but we dont get that until the end of summer.

Ultimate over Home Premium seems like a no brainer to me; one does not want to pay $3000 for a computer and not have its specs maxed out.

The European one has it yes, but the NA one has yet to be confirmed. So only time will tell.

VX2 is being released before the first mobile DX10 cards hit the market in May/June, when Santa Rosa is released. Nvidia has said that their DX10 cards, like Go 8600, 8400, or 8300 will be ready by the Santa Rosa launch, but nothing is set in stone. We don't even have a concrete release date for Santa Rosa yet, besides "May."

The Go 7700 is just temporary filler while Asus waits for DX10 cards. I wouldn't be surprised if the VX2 is refreshed to a Geforce 8600 with an Intel Core 2 Duo T7500 or T7700 when Santa Rosa rolls around.

... Don't expect a Vx2 Santa Rosa update until late July / early August.

With this high external screen resolution, do you think the VX2 can be a good gaming machine if you connect it with an Asus XG Station through the expresscard slot?

We will first have to wait and see how well the XG1 (XG Station Version 1) performs. Everyone has their own estimations. If you didn't know the first XG Station will be using the expresscard slot, but will only use 1X bandwidth, meaning the performance will be much lower. The XG station would also require you yo use an external LCD.

The XG2 (XG Station Version) is the one where you can use your laptop screen as the monitor and have full bandwidth, 16X, this should allow for maximium performance.

It is still quite soon to compare performance levels, but if you consider this, the XG1 will be roughly 9 times faster than integrated graphics, which means it would be just equivalent to a Go 7700 and X1700 in terms of performance.
