I am going to be buying this laptop later but already saw it in the UK for ~4000 dollars...this is rediculous for this laptop. What will the price be here in the US? The VX2 I saw for around 2500.

I'd say starting at $2699 at least.
-
When do you think it might be relased?
-
After becoming tired of waiting, i purchased the VX2 (non-S) for $2,200 incl shipping today.
I think i'll be happy. -
I think MSRP is $2899 for the base model, and then $3299 if you want the version with Blu-Ray and a dock.
-
danggggg....that is WAYYY out of my price range
-
It appears that the black version will only be on premium systems this time around.
Cool - if you can afford it, but another reason that I went with the discontinued model. I wanted the black without spending the $$ for bluray -

my mouth is watering after looking at it. Soo much more expensive than the V2S though, just way too much

Its a Lamborghini, which is what makes it cool. However, Acer did better with its Ferrari line by pricing it high, but not unreasonably high, like $1800-2000, not $3000 like Asus. Then again, I would never buy an Acer, so theres that to consider as well. However, if I had cash, I would definitely get the VX2S. Between yellow and black (I thought it was unpainted carbon fiber?) I'm not sure.
-
the V series seems to have the same shell as the Lambourgini V's (except the Lamb has got Leather and stuff)
-
I'd get the black. The yellow is just too loud, and attracts way too much attention to itself.

well the acer ferrari doesn't have as much character as the lambo. I mean look at the box the lambo comes in , that just looks sick. And then all the extras and the leather, and then the fan on the bottom. Compare that to the ferrari. It probably comes in a brown box and doesn't look like it has a lot of extras and the only cool thing about it is that it has rubber on it and the ferrari symbol. Overall, the look of the lambo feels a lot more authentic in that you are purchasing a top of the line notebook.

its rlly a good deal

Well my reason for getting it is also because it will have 512mb GDDR3 dedicated video memory card. Where as the V1S looks like it will have 256 dedicated GDDR2. If the graphic card is replaceable for say 200 dollars then I would consider the V1S. I am not sure though. Asus wouldn't put the GDDR3 ram in the V1S because it would take from their G1S sales.
My other reasons for choosing this laptop are the looks, uniqueness and attention to detail. It is just a V1S under the covers of course. -
the V1s has 512MB of GDDR2 I believe
i'm not so sure about the VX2 getting 512MB of GDDR3. Even if it did, it would be hindered by it's 128-bit bus, which would make the 512MB kind of useless since it can't transfer all of that info so fast.
But yes, the looks, uniqueness and attention to detail are wonderful. If only they were cheaper... -

Since when is a 200gig drive mid-sized?
-
I wasn't sure on the size ^^, was thinking 160, 200 is still not top of the line. Either way still a 5400rpm drive. Where did you get that price? I am going to compare the 7700 card to the 8600 to see how big the difference really is.

This is new for today - The page lists the VX2s at $3,998.81USD
And also says "This product will be in stock on Saturday 11 August, 2007"
Wow.
If I was spending 4K on a new system, I'd probably max the heck out of an SLI rig like the 9750.
Although I do love the look of the system.
Just remember 'early addopeters pay a premium'. How true that is. -
Damn after looking at that I rather stay with the G1S for half the price.
-
August 11 is the projected ETA for the VX2S? I think Asus said they'd come out before the more mainstream models, so hopefully that means we'll see a late-August release of the others.
-
Funny...I would have thought the V2s and V1s would be out before the VX2s
-
The Vx2s is in the UK already, I have ordered one and should have it tomorrow. it comes with blue-ray drive and the docking station.I am looking foreward to have a play on it....

Hey JC,
Please post huge pictures of the unit and describe it. For example if its a slim optical drive, build quality, fan noise, etc. Would be cool if you can write a full blown review!
Thx. -
the reseller if blaming Asus UK for mixing up the order. I guess a few more days waiting would not kill me.
If you are after pictures of the vx2/s go to http://www.mobile01.com/newsdetail.php?id=3230 for the yellow one and
http://www.mobile01.com/topicdetail.php?f=233&t=364229&last=3281695 for the black one the writing is in chinese but I will not be able to take better pic then these.
