Here is one for the masses that probably has an easy answer.
I started playing WoW again... so the use of voice applications is a must for the guild I am in. I use it on my desktop perfectly with push to talk bound to one of the mouse keys on my MX518, I could also use a keyboard key it works fine too but I prefer the mouse.
I just recently installed both WoW and Ventrilo on my C90S and the result is not the same, for what ever reason my PTT (push to talk) key wont work unless ventrilo is the top and active window, so while I am in game or doing anything nobody can hear me and I have to put the vent window on top to talk and thats a major disadvantage and very annoying. I tried all the basic options like enable/disable direct input. I tried various different keys from F' keys, to control, to all the mouse buttons. Nothing works.
My mouse i use for the record is the G7 for my laptop.
My guess is it has something to do with the fact the laptop has a touchpad, or function keys. I honestly really dont know but surly there is a easy fix for the issue.

Just a shot in the dark here... If you're using Logitech Setpoint with uberMouse, the key bindings to mouse buttons can be program-specific.
As in, when you're in WoW, the WoW set of mouse buttons is not the set where you assigned the PTT button to mouse.
You'll want to either bind it globally, or bind it to WoW.exe -
I guess it's something with your hardware configuration (mouse,keyboard...).
I have WoW and ventrilo on my F3SA and PTT works perfectly. (i use an external keyboard though, don't know if it has anything to do with it.) -

It shouldn't be an issue, so its strange.
Try making WoW play in windowed mode, and remove the 'borders' as well, see if that works. -

Im playing in windowed mode currently, I dont know how to get rid of the borders tho, so thats a new trick you can teach me.

Well, this post does not help you for the keyboard issue, but it might help you for your health issue. STOP WOW! hahaha. I used to be so addicted to that game when it first came out. I played everyday non stop for like 8 hours a day. We used to raid 6 days a week and then off raid times we just pvp. After 2 years of WoW, I had accumulated 245days played. That is sick. I decided to screw it and put my character up on ebay and sold it for $2750 including my 10,000g. Now I am glad, but addicted to Dota.
Anyways, have you tried to re-install ventrillo? I know sometimes my PTT didnt work so I had to go to settings and just play around. Just keep playing and do it in Test so you can see which works and which does not. Does your vent work without PTT as in if you have not selected Push Key? -

I play on a private server so the addiction is not so bad, 40x item drop rates 70x xp rates ect so you dont have to give your first born to play. I can try to install Vent again, I have no reason to belive it would fix anything esp since vent works and PTT works too just when its the active top window but may as well try everything.
Vent works without PTT but I dont play like that it causes reverb to anybody on the channel, sensitivity is too high where it wont come on when i talk, or too low where it comes on from sounds from the speakers. -

Are you sure you have the latest version of ventrilo and that the server who is hosting has the latest version as well? This is probably no the issue but for the sake of ruling out the obvious make sure you use a freshly downloaded client from the website and inquire as to whether the server has the latest client software installed. There were some major changes done towards the end of last year so if you used an older client to install it might be the issue.
Also I have had no trouble with PTT with my sidewinder mouse for BF2142, WC3, and TF2 but I have always lacked the ability to have "What U hear" as an option for output. I had that on my desktop but now i don't on my laptop so it makes djing our vent raves...difficult...at best. If you help me find a solution to that I'll work hard to do the same for your problem -
I assume you are using Vista as your operating system, as the trouble you describe is only experienced with this OS.
The solution is very simple, and will not require reconfiguring your game, or anything else for that matter.
At your desktop, locate your Ventrilo shortcut. Right click it, and select "properties". Then select the "compatibility" tab.
Below that you see a check box and drop down list with "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and check mark it and use the drop down list to slect windows XP with Service Pack 2.
Also run this as administrator must be selected also.
Now start Ventrilo and you will see that it functions normally, as expected. -

Hi, I Don't actually have the above notebook, however have reciently upgraded to vista 64-bit with SP1 (Ultimate). on my home PC.
After playing wow too i was on vent and was unsure why i could use vent with it open but when behind another program i too lost my Push-to-talk ability i use the ( ` ) or the key next to number 1. I use a G15 keyboard and my name would appear in vent with it open but not with it behind wow.. etc etc
Thank you very much 'Sfgates' for your post regarding the compatability / shortcut. This has resolved my issues and i am now able to irritate everyone else in my guild with my drunken voice on friday nights..
Anyways thats all i had to say, i dont have a notebook, or care to even have one but i couldn't take your help and not say thanks..
