Not long ago picked up the Verizon E815, hacked the seem and was able to tether to the Z70VA in dialup mode. It took a lot of time, and was slow but has now quit working. It appears that I am having bluetooth problems. I have searched the net and spent more hours trying to tether the phone to the laptop for those on the road situations where I need email and cannot find a WiFi hotspot. Has anyone out there done this with the Asus laptops? I am getting tired of tracking everything down. Specifically I am having problems when I get to the bluetooth PIN request. I am using the bluetooth wizard, put in the PIN, phone sees the request and asks for a PIN, put the same one in, phone validates, then wizard setup fails.
If none of you have done this is their a good bluetooth tutorial specific to the Z70VA?
Help appreciated.

I have done it lots of times without issue. Have you uninstalled the bluetooth software and reloaded it?
-
I can't help your problem, but I've got the same phone and was wondering how you hacked the seem?
-
Im sure you can find what you are looking for on howardforums.com or cellphonehacks.com do you have bitpim and or qpst?you willl also need a hex editor and data cable for your phone.
So the E815 doesnt support Dun at all? Hes not using evdo though probably just 1x or 14.4 speed. Cant you just use a data cable and install the modem drivers for your phone on your laptop or do you really want to use bluetooth. -
I will try uninstalling the and reinstalling the bluetooth drivers.
I was just using the phone as a modem and dialing an access number, getting dialup speed which really was not fast enough.
I have read all the forums on whether or not Verizon likes us doing this stuff, so don't need to discuss that. Do you have step by step instructions to enable the higher speed connect through Verizon? I am going blind going through the other forums because everyone gets off topic - have to read a bunch of other banter.
(And for others, hacking instructions for the E815 are easy find, and if you carefully follow the steps an intermediate computer user can easily handle it.) -
for evdo the dialup number should be #777
the username is your 10 digit phone number
[email protected] password is vzw. if you have an early model e815 should work the early model vx8100 work fine but they disabled in in the v4.0 firmware. -
Hey SRD,
I reinstalled the bt drivers. Used the bt wizard to connect new devices, showed Motorola Phone as an options. Selected it, asked for PIN. Put in 0000. Phone beeped, prompted for PIN. Entered 0000. Phone validated, then bt wizard gives error "Automatic modem installation failed. Please set up again".
This is the same error that I had before. BTW, bt was connecting to my Garmin moble GPS just fine.
Also, when I dial #777 I get the message the the call cannot be completed as dialed. I am not paying for any extra evdo, is that why?
If that is why I believe there was another way to connect through Verizon, but a slower connect like 1x or something, right? -
Im really not sure why you cant connect the bluetooth. As for the EVDO you dont have to pay for it to get it thats the look hole. But the new model phones wont let you but it would say invalid password. ill check and make sure the number was #777 ill post back later. THe 1x was the same number just have to disable evdo on the phone but let me double check the number.

Thanks for checking. I think I might have to reinstall the MFT (Motorolla Phone Tools) driver. I will check that out after I locate my USB cable for the phone.
thanks for the help -
its #777 thats the right number.

I am dead in the water on this tether thing. My bluetooth works fine on my gps, so I know that laptop install is fine. I ordered Motorola Phone Tools latest version, could not get the phone to set up right. There documentation and support is not very good, but I have not yet posted anythig to their support forum. Went out and bought another usb phone cable to try it that way, nope. I am feeling pretty ignorant right now. Any thoughts?

The only thing i can say is search google. and howardforums.com the motorola phones were always more of a pain than like LG or samsung. honeslty sometimes it just takes lots of reading and trying more and more things eventually it will work i know its a pain but really the only way. Your answer is out there thought post something in howardforums or cellphonehacks

Got it working, but not through Motorola Phone Tools. I am not sure what I did to get it to work, but I used the BT Manager wizard rather than the MFT, which never worked right. Man, I futzed with this for hours. Thanks for the help.

Glad to hear you got it to work.
