Sorry if this is a newb question, but I can't for the life of me get the scrolling function (which I'm assuming is like the wheel on a regular mouse) to work on my new A8Jm.
When I brush my finger up or down on the right edge of the pad to try to scroll a long document, nothing happens. Very occasionally I get this little image of a grey scroll bar that pops up and the document scrolls continously, but it seems to occur randomly.
I have tried playing around with the Synaptics device, settings, and I can't really figure out what I'm doing wrong. Anyone else have a similar problem or can let me know what I may be doing incorrectly?
Thanks!

hmm.. mine worked out of the box so i cant comment on if your settings are correct, but i do find that the scrolling responds best when i run my finger to the left of that line (sweet spot may be different on yours tho). you also have to press your finger quite hard - not brush, stroke or trace... you gotta PRESS hard. may be im just a girl but after a few uses i still rather use my mouse

try going to the synaptics site and download the newest drivers. that's how i got mine to work (albeit not an A8J)

If you go into the Synaptics-specific part of your Mouse settings (control panel > mouse > device settings tab > Settings button), then look at Virtual Scrolling > Scrolling Region, you'll be able to make the scroll region bigger, which should make it easier to activate.
At the end of the day, though, I find that it's still pretty tricky to activate. My personal solution is to go to the Tap Zones part of the same dialog, and map the Top Right tap zone to "Scroll the current window up" and the Bottom Right to "Scroll the current window down". Now I can just tap repeatedly in the right corners of the pad to scroll up and down. It's not as "neat" (the Apples have the neatest/cleanest touchpad scrolling), but I find this easier with the asus touchpad on my computer (V6J). You can tweak the Tap Zone Sizes while you're in there to your preference.
(FWIW, I also like to map the Top Left to "Secondary Click" so I can tap there to simulate a right-click, which I find handy.)
