No.... but you have two choices.

Dont say anything and hope they dont noitce.

Or explain the situation and hope they understand, Asus has RMA'ed bad flash before (heck they did it for me before on my EEE when I messed up the system bios)

You could say you had graphics issues and you were trying to fix them...

I cant say which path is the right one to choose.

    Sup guys.

I'm trying to figure out my w90's graphical glitches again (This time, vertical line crashing galore). On my old w90, I had no issue getting the cards flashed, yet for some reason, I can't get ATIWinFlash to even open. I'll run it as admin, it'll act like its loading it up, then nothing. Task Mgr says its a running process, but theres no window at all.

Happens with every version of the program too. Tried at least 6 of them from TechPowerUp.

Edit: Oh. And. I have to restart the computer everytime I run it also e.e Because for some reason the computer refuses to kill the process from Task Manager.

I had it not open one or two times. I fixed it via reboot or by task manager.

I should probably make a guide for how to use ATIFlash as its more failsafe and reliable just a bit more complicated to use as there is no GUI its command line based in dos.

That'd be awesome. Honestly, I'm thinking this issue may be a driver related issue. I mean, if it was hardware, it'd happen in Safe Mode running off a standard VGA driver, wouldn't it?

Setfsb worked very well for me...no problems. Perhaps the version was corrupted in the download.

dunno, may have to ask the setfsb creator about it, quad is our spokes person.

all I can say is make sure your not using anything that may conflict with it, and also run it as administrator.

Hey just an FYI for anyone thinking of RMA after screwing up BIOS like I did. When I talked to ASUS USA they said that if you send them an RMA and the problem is not covered under the warrenty (like reflashing GPU bios) they will then send you an email stating a price for repair instead of just sending the broken machine back to you. So its a win win. They will either fix it in good grace or charge you a bit, but regardless they will fix it.

still sorry you borked your machine even if you can get it fixed cheap nobody likes to spend more than they have too. I went broke getting my w90 there is no way I can get a SSD or pay for extra stuff right now.

True enough, when I was in I always had money to spare as there is not nearly as much to have to spend it on if you play your cards right.

room/board/food/transportation all of that is covered and thats like 95% of the average persons spending.

course we make up most of that drinking, and some people choose to pay for cars and things.

I was gonna get a motorcycle since its easy to transport, and no insurance is required so it would be a one time investment but where I was stationed the sand & wind makes riding one impossible or very unsafe.

Tell you the next thing to invest in, dont get a big tv like everybody else tends to do, get a HD Projector, its a bigger screen and so much easier to transport & store.

BTW I was thniking, if the desktop 4870X2 is two 4850's then isnt this the same? Two 4850's trying to act like a 4870?

on the desktop the 4870x2 is two 4870 gpu dies on a single pcb, with on on board crossfire sync system.

    the 4850x2 is the same.

the laptop version is more like two 4870m's in crossfire and they care calling it a 4870x2 as its not on the same die and they are connected with a crossfire cable.

this is why flashing them to master cards works just fine as they are actually individual cards in crossfire.

I guess it was a marketing choice to call it a 4870x2 and do a master/slave setup instead of having two master cards in crossfire. That or some kind of price cut was found.

Quick question. Dose anyone know what happens when using ATIFlash and it says Failed at the end? Dose it restore the old bios or is there no bios on that card anymore?

probalby no bios or a corrupted bios as before it can flash a new bios it takes off the old on, so if it failed it means it could not remove the old one or it already took it off and failed to put the new one one.

make sure you used the correct commands and names for everything, maybe it failed just because you typed something wrong, and since your card is already messed up you can try forced flash.

You wont know until you try. A forced flash should bypass the checks and all that and just try to put the new bios on there.

Yeah unfortunately like I said before, The only person I could find here hasnt even gotten his W90 yet, Now I know the slave card finished its flash to slave so could I flash that to master and switch the slots over? The cards are identical.

Well actually, I know Windows Vista is designed to not cut off programs while they are doing something so when you push the power button and it dosent come up with that program is still running thing. I assume the program was done such as ATIFlash was done flashing if it allowed windows to shutdown in its normal log off cycle.

TOT my system corrupted after installing the drivers with 303.inf. I had to use the recovery disk
"6.) Navigate to the directory where the modified .INF files are located for your driver (C:/ATI/Support/9-4_vista64_win7_64_dd/Packages/Drivers/Display/LH6A_INF/) is the default for the included drivers.
7.) Choose the 2nd card name/option and the drivers should install."
Could anyone mention the procedures in detail ?I see two .inf files (238 and 303)in LH6A_INF/ folder, which one should I use? or do I need to install them in a perticular order ? And need I repeat the procedures again for another card?

My performance seemed to decrease with 3dMark06 after install. I ran it with stock driver and 15% OC and got 12,538. I then installed the drivers OC 15% and GPU to max and got 11,036. ?

If you do the primary some have reported that it took on the secondary, mine did not and I installed drivers for both. I'll let someone else take the rest, I know what to do but I gotta be looking at it.

I used the 303.inf files. Then I used the choose driver method, (not have disc method). I loaded 4870x2 drivers and they seemed to take.

I still have the original CCC.

    My 3dmark06 score also dropped.

I'm curious too. I've been asking about what ccc is being used for best control and performance but I don't think there's a consensus on it yet.

So far, I'm using the original. It seems to be working but not without the occasional issues.

I only used the original CCC for mine as it was the only one designed for the W90, quad later found one that works giving you the traditional crossfire options and things, but I would assume it to work the same.

    Just try both :p

Hello and thank you I have oc my graphics cards without concern. I will like oc the processor but with setfsb I am blocked to 3.2 Go *T9400* (blue screen or freeze) there is to you it a means of circumventing a his (software which will make it possible to touch with the voltage or others….)

I also have the issue where crossfire works fine under vista ultimate 64, but only 1 card is functional under windows rc1 build 7100. I've tried both master, master/slave, copying bios from my master card to the slave, etc... doesn't work.

The one difference I've noticed is "flash type" is different, though this shouldn't matter. I don't think.

I'm just going to grin and bear it, and continue running windows 7. It's such a better experience on this laptop. When this issue is resolved, I'll look at it as a "free" upgrade before I go the gpu overclocking route.

Besides, since crossfire doesn't work, I'm now running the newest ATI drivers.

Mostly for the CPU upgrade, I wanted a quad core for a long time. However I openly welcome the huge gpu upgrade also.

Plus as a photoshoper the larger screen res comes in very handy.

ok,, what are the newest ATI drivers for the 4870's and can you please post a link to them ..
I'm not happy with the stock drivers and their performance in World of warcraft -- and Asus said it wasn't a graphic intensive game! yea,,, my sassy and frequent 16 fps, tells me it must be.....

how to restore previous bios in case i want to guys? just use the same procedure with original bios? and in this case i have to restore the previous driver first??

in the files i see there are also files for the master. do we have to overclock this too? the guide says only about the slave right?

if there is anyone who did this , how much do the temps of gpus increase?

Just got a Windows 7 RC for the W90. Sorry I've been absent, I have been, of course, playing all the games I've missed out on over the past years. Perhaps I'm just not picky, but I played Crysis on DX9 mode (10 had a weird flickering glitch for distance drawing), on all High, and I never noticed any FPS issues. Maybe that's old news.

I'll post some RC screenshots sometime, unless that too, is old news.

No old news there as Crysis gave me bad frames when I benched it on 7068 and I think you will be the first to have both video cards working in RC 7100.

Infact maybe thats why my Crysis bench was down so low was because I only had one card working, but my 3dmark06 was only 100 points lower...

Interesting, so it seems pretty hit or miss whether or not crossfire works in windows 7 rc1 eh? I'm getting pretty decent Frames per second without the second card for now. The nice 3.2Ghz dual core cpu has something to do with that I"m sure... I"m running to an external 1920x1200 monitor as well via hdmi.

Ok I just have one question that no one seems to want to answer. What kind of performance increase was seen after installing 9.4? As for me when I did it my score went down, but I think I only had one card enabled at the time. Unfortunately I have to RMA and am waiting so I cannot test it again. Any feedback would be much appriciated.
