Hey I am wondering if someone out there could please make a video tutorial on how to apply Arctic Silver 5 (AS5) for all the noobs like myself XD. If this is done it will definately help all those laptop users out there that really wants to keep their gpu/cpu cooler, especially g51 users.

Please make sure the video includes how to clean the gpu / cpu before you apply the compound and possibly some benchmarks comparing stock paste compare to AS5 to see how much cooler it will be.

Also state what NOT to do, so ppl don't mess up their laptops XD.

Someone please take this into consideration, thank you.

here's a hint: don't use AS5. AS5 is electrically conductive, unlike MX-3 and ICD-7, so a single drop falling in the wrong spot can fry your board.

thanks for the hint. Well a video using whatever recommended thermal compound to use would be good

Be very careful with your choice of words, EIement. AS5 is capacitive, not conductive. Micronized silver loses it's conductive properties when mixed with it's silicone base.

    DarkxBlazer. This should help. http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?p=5027711&postcount=520

Yes. There are thermal pads on the GPU memory and MOSFET's. The GPU die does not have a thermal pad.

So since the GPU uses thermal pads is it still ok to use thermal compound? and what do you mean by GPU die?

If you remove a thermal pad, you should replace it with another thermal pad.

The die is the core of the gpu.

ok i think i understand the die, but the thermal pad. What I mean is, if I take off the copper plate off of the GPU to put on the compound will I have to replace the thermal pads too? or can i just put back on the copper plate like normal after i apply the compound

Thermal pads are reusable to an extent. As long as you don't poke at them, they should last you for the duration of your notebook. All you need to worry about right now is replacing the thermal paste on the GPU die.
