I am thinking about installing Vista on a z35f. I have only used vista on my desktops. Is it true vista uses about 20 percent more battery life than XP with say CHC installed?

I don't think it's 20% more battery life consumed. In the beginning, before a lot of bugs were worked out, Vista would eat batteries. They did some reworking, and now, without Aero, you should get approximately the same battery life as in XP.

According to some benchmarks ive found on other sites it shows vista as draining the battery a little bit more but definlty not 20%

I think when aero is off (by default when you use the battery saver profile in vista it turns aero off) it gets you the same values as XP.

well when idling its about the same, maybe 10%. But I've noticed that when i use it 'normally' its more like 20-30% less. its VERY noticable!

And Notebook hardware controller doesnt work under Vista YET.

I noticed there is much more HDD activity in Vista so that may explain a little bit more drain than XP.

I am guessing that would be superfetch or the defragmentation which is scheduled to run every week. At first I found this to be very disturbing, Vista doing things automatically without me knowing anything about it

um, no.. would it make a huge diffrence?

I tried and at 80% left on the battery only made 5 minutes difference.

Maybe Powermizer is not working on my Go7600. Its not in the nvidia driver control pannel so perhaps thats why I'm using so much juice.

Which drivers are you using, Insane?

I think I'm currently using the 101.41 drivers on my A8JS's 7700go, and I don't see PowerMizer in the cpanel, either. Come to think of it, I'm not sure if I saw them in 100.65, either.

It could be that we have to wait for a solid notebook release from nvidia before we see support for PowerMizer running under vista? That would suck if that's the case, as it doesn't look like there have been any official "Go" drivers since last June.
