Anyone put this OS on their Asus laptop?
Have it running on my V6j, noticed the bluetooth 2.0 driver doesn't install correctly, nor do the nvidia drivers for the go 7400. Still looking for a solution to these.

Toms hardware just posted their review of vista....I still dont know what to think of this new o/s, good bad or indifferent....I guess I was hope MS would do something revolutionary, but to me it just looks like a reworked nicer looking XP, with a few good extras....I guess as its still in beta thus all those bugs...I dont expect to see it on ASUS notebooks for about a year.

Interesting review, thanks for the link, Underpantman. :)

Honestly I'm most excited about the new Windows Explorer interface. Seems to be a more thorough reworking of the system, not just a cosmetic update. I dunno, I'll reserve judgement until I actually spend time with a full release. The Betas I've messed with are still a little quirky.

Ive received a key to download Office Pro 2007 with, but what about Vista? Do you need an invite for that as well?

In the newsletter it said: blablabla now you can download both Vista and Office, however, I couldn't find the link to Vista...

I'm antsy for something new....very sick of XP.

I'm on the fence about trying the download, or buying some of the third party programs that makes things look like Vista. I'd obviously rather wait than pay for something that's going to be rendered useless.

The servers are super-busy ATM because the all world and it's sister are trying to grab it :)

My advice is to wait a week or two so the load on their servers will ease up and you'll grab your copy in no time.

Anyway, I just got my copy today and plan to install it on M5A (Z33A) for some initial benchmarks. I see some of you are already using Vista. Since ASUS has no beta drivers for the NB, atleast mine, I guess you grabbed each drivers from the manufacturer website? (e.g. Chipset from Intel, etc').

I just downloaded and installed the 32 bit version of Beta 2. It's quite nice I must say, but I would like the 64bit version, but the servers seem to be too full today. O well... I'll try again later ;)

you should all try FlashGet, and use the second download link on the right. Much easier to handle. Im currently writing it at 2x, for "microsoft-deemed safety" reasons.

    -edit-

ok, currently installing. Before you run the installation program, windows defender will need to be uninstalled for the vista installation to continue, should you choose to upgrade your xp installation.

64bit version on the V6J, didn't know it was possible?

Also, did your bluetooth 2.0 work on the install? If not, what did you do to get BT working in vista beta 2?

You cannot install Windows Vista x64 on ASUS V6J. Simply because Core Duo CPus are 32bit not 64bit :)

I have installed Vista Beta 2 on my V6J but I can't seem to get the Nvidia drivers to work. I download the vista versions (32 bit) but they will not install...any one know what to do.

    Thanks for the help!

Well I noticed the windows xp sticker on my W3J states "Windows Vista Capable"

Anthow I was runing Vista on a work PC for some photoshop testing, looked cool, the thing I didn't like is that I like to see where I am in windows explorer, buy normally showing the folders on the left hand side as I normally have 3 wondows explorer folders open with different locations on network and local drives (photoshop opens quicker if you drag and drop from explorer then if you use the open dialogue box).

It looks like new explorer in vista does not have this.... it bugs the hell out of me. I looked around for the ability to turn it on, I found it but as soon as you went deeper into a folder structure, the folder view dissapeared!!

Well, I already posted this in another thread. But just incase people will read here instead there:

I guess whoever here installed Windows Vista ran Windows Update to check if there are driver update for Chipset, VGA, WLAN and others?

It's the only possibility I can think of as neither ASUS nor Intel have any kind of Vista/beta drivers for Windows Vista in their website.

I guess it depends what WLAN card you have in your notebook. I've got a broadcom one, so not an intel.

The driver support is worse than that of Win XP 64bit. So I'll wait till around this time next year before I buy it. Its just not worth upgrading now if the functionality is less than what we currently have in XP.

I've put my XP HDD back in the notebook, much better :)

The only reason I want to install Vista is to check if it'll be possible to install MobileMark 2005 in order to test battery time.

I have been running Vista on my W3V for several days now, and I must admit that I am quite surprised with the performance. Maybe it's the excitement, but for some reason, Vista seems more responsive than XP.

Besides for a couple of problems - Bluetooth is unsupported (?) and I had to uninstall NOD32 because it was causing 100% CPU usage - Beta 2 is quite stable and if the Beta 2 is this good, I cannot wait for the final!

By the way, can anyone recommend a antivirus for Vista?

anti-virus??? I thought Vista was going to be extremly secure :p

I'd be guessing but I'd imaging that the vista versions of the various anti-virus programs will only come out just b4 vista.

Well Nod32 (eset) were i think the first to bring out "root kit" protection in their antivirus suite, so I am sure they will be quick to release a 64bit version when vista arives.

actually I just had alook on their web site

    System Requirements

    Operating System
Microsoft Windows 2000 Workstation , NT
Microsoft Windows XP Home and Professional, including Windows XP Professional x64 Edition
CPU 386 or higher processor (Pentium recommended)
30 MB free hard disk space
32 MB RAM (64 MB RAM recommended)
    VGA or better graphic card

maybe you just need to download the 64bit version.

    Regarding Tom's Hardware review:

They claim to go deep into the workings of the system (or whichever was the phrasing they used) but half the presentation is allocated to games!! and half of the rest to relatively minor issues like e.g., file associations. That's hardly "going deep"...

That being said, based on this review, I don't think I'll be switching to Vista anytime soon. IExplorer 7 is just a Firefox clone, and I won't give up Firefox for it. I won't give up Windows Commander for an Explorer that looks so pretty that you never know quite what you're doing. The Aero + Gadgets stuff I'd probably keep for a few weeks for the coolness factor, but I'd quickly get tired of them and switch back to default... I always hated transparent windows as they make it harder to focus on what you're doing. And gadgets like current weather, RSS feed etc. that take up space on the desktop 100% of time while being used only rarely... no thanks.

Oh, well, but this is only a personal opinion. :)

I tried that driver, IMO it sucks. Use Update from Device mgr, newer ver loads, works much better.
    - - -
WiFi Use Intel, then get online updates. I gave up using AR5006 WiFi or USR5410 PCMCIA as NO drivers avail yet!

Firefox 1504 works GREAT in Vista.

Q1. NO AntiVirus in vista, ANY recommendations on freeware yet?

Folders- drag & drop, check Bottom lower left corner of your screen. Works FINE, but helps to expand the folders up so U can see stuff OK.

try Win XP as 1st partition, load VISTA to 2nd logical drive partition. That way choice of systems on boot. Works fine here.
Xp PRO = Earlier version. Vista=Windows.

Q2. How do you edit the BOOT File in VISTA?? ? ?
