    Hi all,

I'm just wondering when Asus will start loading all their notebooks with Windows Vista. The reason why I'm asking is that I feel hesitant about going in the direction of Vista because of all the problems that I've been hearing people having (especially the UAC thing). So, I want to get a notebook before they start putting Vista on all their machines. Then maybe if Vista gets better later, I could always upgrade.

    Thanks for your input.

So far, only a few models(The newest G1, G2, V1 and W2 so far) have Vista pre-installed, it would be best to contact the reseller and inquire.

I feel that Asus, and pretty much every other company will have Vista pre-loaded on their machines by the end of Q2. As Models become discontinued and Santa Rosa makes it debut, XP on new machines will be non-existent. But one thing to remember is that the Vista upgrade coupon offered by Asus will expire by the end of March, so if you do want the option of XP and Vista, only a few weeks left.

a8js/r (atleast the one on newegg) also has vista preinstalled with built in bluetooth. They better get their acts together and fix up vista. I'm just as hesitant about it as you are right now. Looks are great, but can only get you so far.

    The UAC thing....

You can easily turn it off by going into MSCONFIG and selecting Disable UAC

if you couldn't I would have thrown my laptop out of a window by now.

I read somewhere that all notebook manufacturers will have to pre-load vista onto their new notebooks by April.

Worst case scenario, just install good old Windows XP and download ASUS drivers from the Asus website... Who doesn't have a legal XP copy these days?

The Asus notebooks here in the Netherlands are already sold with preinstalled Windows Vista. The older models are being sold with a Windows Vista update coupon.
