I personaly, reformat my computer every 6-10 months, because things feel slow after time, and more and more obscure errors pop up and things get annoyingly slow.

I suggest go with what your most familiar with, unless your looking for something new, then go wtih Vista, otherwise stick with XP.

Install XP...all the (currently) available Vista versions are beta or release candidates.

I used partition magic to make a 12 gb partition.

i installed vista home premium. Vista creates a dual boot menu for you.

Thats what you should do if you want to mess around with it.

i was just worried that vista would actually hinder my system instead of upgrade it. Heard some ppl saying unless you have dual core its going to slow down your system and i should stick with xp this true?? My notebook specs are in my first post if you want to see them.

the big question is what kind of video card do you have? You need a dedicated video card that has at least 128MB of video memory for Vista to run smoothly.

you should be fine...you might have some driver quirkiness but from what I hear Vista is running pretty well.

Make sure any special hardware/software you plan to run is Vista supported.

If I were you, I'd install XP first, then install Vista. That way you have the option to boot to Vista or XP, and you can set the timer to wait for 5 seconds or choose one or the other by default. If you decide you don't need the other one you can just delete it and set the timer at 0 and never think about it again. If you install XP second though, it won't let you dual boot with Vista because of the new boot system (non NTLDR).

IMHO though theres no reason to mess with Vista, there are some good aspects to it but nothing that makes it worth the performance cut and driver/program issues. Not yet.
