I have an F3SV. I have both the recovery partition and the recovery DVD. Is there any real reason to keep the recovery partition since I have the DVD? Aren't they exactly the same? I'd like to create a new partition for the Ubunto distro of Linux so I can dual boot between Ubunto and Vista.

    Thanks.

They are essentially the same, yes. However, if you have to reinstall Vista using the HDD recovery partition will cut the time required by 75%. If you use the DVD plus driver CD, you're looking at a lot longer (with the same result, you've just sat around a lot more).

Will I even need the driver CD? Doesn't the recovery DVD have all of the drivers on it?

No, the recovery DVD only has the Vista OS.

The driver CD has all of the Asus drivers that your notebook shipped with, saving you the trouble of having to go through the Asus support site and try to find every single one that you'd need.... Don't lose it, the Vista DVD will ask for drivers at some point during the install if you go that route - yet another reason to save the recovery partition, as that DOES have the complete OS and drivers in it.
