Well, I decided to do a new Vista install on my F3SA from the recovery disc. So, I insert the dvd and boot from it. Then, a loading bar apears with a message saying "loading windows files". When the files are loaded, the classic vista screen appears with a cursor but nothing else. So, I think it's installing vista but 13hours later it's still on that screen. The recovery from the hdd partition does the same thing and I really don't know what to do.
Can someone help me out here please because I really need the laptop.
    Thanks

    Hi.

It sound like a faulty install.

Did you format the hdd or the system partition before you did the install, I always do that, It cuts down the number of things that can go wrong.

    Regards

    John.

    Hi.

So do you only have the recovery dvd and not a Full Vista install disk?

    Hi.

You can make yourself a vista disk on the thread below, Or maybe you could get somebody local to post you a copy, Or borrow one from a friend and then you can do a complete format and install.

As long as you have a valid vista serial, it is total legal to make a copy.

I have sent a few copys to other NBR member myself.

    Hi.

Unless you have a multi system licence you can only legally have xp on one system at a time.

I suppose you could install xp, but since your have a vista laptop you might have difficulty finding xp driver for you laptop, I would have a look on the asus website for drivers first.

Hmm, after some searching on the XP downgrade guide I found out that it's not such a great idea to do that. So, we're back to vista. Is there any way I could install vista from the recovery dvd I have? cause I can't really afford right now buying a new copy of an OS I already have. So, any help would be great. I also checked the link a guy gave me above how to clean the HDD and then install the OS. Anyone knows if that would help?? Thanks in advance :)

Call Asus and have them send you a new Recovery disk.

I checked that thread and made a copy of vista. Could someone please help me out how to do a complete format and install? I insert the dvd and boot from it but does the same thing as the recovery dvd. Thank you

edit:in this guide, when I burn the iso file on a dvd with nero, does it have to be a bootable dvd or a data dvd? ty

    Hi.

start "nero burning rom" , when it says new compilation click cancel.

You need to go to recorder in the taskbar at the top of the page and select burn iso.

To install you boot from the vista disk, the select you master partition and format it, and then continue with the install.

I cannot remember how it is worded exactly, just take your time, and read everything.

If you are feeling brave, delete you recovery partition and make one large partition or as i do, 1/3 c: 2/3 d:

Hmm, I got no "nero burning rom". I have nero express but when i want to make a bootable dvd and add the iso file it says : "file is larger than 2GB and cannot be stored in an ISO file system. please use the UDF file system" Is there another programm to use to burn the bootlable disc? thanks

    EDIT: I also tried this:

If you can no longer install Windows due to messed-up boot settings, there is a way to reset them. Here is how to do that. This guide also works if you want to wipe your HDD for other reasons; except security reasons: with this guide the data will still be there and is recoverable by professionals.

Download the base FreeDOS ISO, and burn it on a CD. Boot the CD. You will get a command prompt; below I assume the drive letter for that prompt is "X". First, try erasing the master boot record only, and keep the partitions intact. For that you need to type the following commands:

    X:> CD FREEDOS
    X:\FREEDOS> FDISK /MBR

That will wipe the Master Boot Record on the HDD. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to reboot. Try installing Windows now.

the command thing doen't really work though, it's says "can't write on selected drive" Arghhhh
