    Hi all,

Looking at the Aust Asus website (which has just been given a new look) at the W1000 range. Does anyone know if this model will be updated in the near future with the Sonoma or some other chipset? I've seen the specs on the V6020V which are AWESOME, except I'd like 15.4" widescreen... It looks like what I want is somewhere between the two models.

Any help would be most appreciated!

    Cheers,
    Paul

Great, thanks for the reply Justin. The V6020V sure is a nice unit. I can only imagine what the W1000 series will look like.

Well... it looks the same as it does now.... so I don't know what you're trying to imagine. There will be a few changes.... but it's the same chassis.

    Thanks,

From what I've heard, all "Sonoma updates" of current ASUS notebooks will look pretty much exactly the same as before... perhaps with the addition of another feature (MAYBE an improved screen... bluetooth... etc.)

ASUS M6800Ne, P-M 1.5 Dothan, 512MB Ram, Toshiba Combo drive, Samsung Spinpoint M 40G HDD with 8M cache, Mobility Radeon 9700

Sorry, I didn't realise it was going to use the same chassis.

right........ although the W3/V6/W2 are using a black anondized brushed alunimum....... I don't *think* they are going that way with the W1...... however I have see pictures of both the current W1.... a black anondized W1... AND a sweeeeeeeeet exposed carbon fiber W1

I doubt we're going to get that type of carbon fiber finish... because it wouldn't hold up... but it's certainly beautiful!

That looks alright... but I'd prefer it if it was just a smooth surface... like the M5 or M6.
Is that really the W1? I didn't realize there was so much extra space on the sides of the keyboard...almost looked like a W2

Nope, W1.. and that is a smooth surface... it's just carbon fiber in a clear resin..... Trust me... some people LOVE it.... I'm debating getting hooked up with a cover and palm rest like that for my w1 for my new car since I've got CF trim..... but at the same time a W1 is a little big for my traveling needs.

Just thought you'd enjoy the pictures.

    Thanks,
    Justin
