Well, in Germany :). In NL it isn't (yet).

    Asus W1JC-Serie AJ001P
    15.4" WSXGA+ 1.680 x 1.050
    Core™Duo T2500
    100GB 5.400rpm
    1x 1GB DDR2-533
    ATI Mobility™ Radeon™ X1600 256MB GDDR3
    DVD±RW DL
    TV-Tuner
    XPPro

The Euro price is €1899,-, won't even translate it in US Dollars, as the Dollar's value is very low, it's going down within months, but well, this isn't the topic to discuss that.

Wow kool! I can't wait till someone in germany to review it.

1899 Euros = 2400 USD, but then you gotta minus a couple of hundred dollars, because the US is always cheaper.

My guess the price of the W1J would be around 2000-2200 with minor changes in specs, but MAY have a change in screen Res. :(

^ the price is a little expensive, but your getting one awsome multi-media laptop, with an awsome chasis and good looks.

    Lets hope for the best.

    Thanks,

    MysticGolem

    Yes it is noc...

However, I am going to wait till they release the V1J, the W2J is too heavy in my opinion (even though I prefer the image of the W1J above that of the V1J).

I estimate they are going to release the V1J somewhere at the end of June / beginning of July, let's hope so! :)

Blah, I just woke up and saw the thread title and thought it said V1J was available, not W1J :p . I guess I'll go back to sleep now. ;)

The W1j is a media center desktop replacement, its heavy for a 15.4", and looks pretty similiar to the W2j.

l33t cow, yah the V1J and W1J are gonna have similar specs.

The W1J is a multimedia notebook, using a bigger chasis, that weighs more, but has different features. Many say the W1J looks better than the V1J because its more of a show off model :D

The V1J is more of a business laptop, going to have different features, we assume it gonna have a V6J chasis, but a widescree version of it, we expect it to be thin and light and MAY be released in August. :(

    Thanks,

    MysticGolem

    Asus W1J seems pretty interesting.
I'm going to buy a lappy at summer some point, and at the moment Asus W1J is the very best bet? I've been thinking LG S1 and Asus A6JM, but the thing is, that LG S1 comes only with german keyboard (from Germany, suprisingly :p) and A6JM has only WXGA display panel, where Asus W1J has WSXGA.
Plus, when buying W1J from Mediafrost.de or notebook-shop.de I can have it with finnish keyboard layout, which suits me better off than german layout.
The only thing is that W1J is a bit pricey...

Do you have any idea of W1J's battery time?

Why is it so much more than the W3j? Well I guess its the TV tuner, higher res screen, and faster CPU.

Well the W1J batterylife is gonna be tough to speculate because we have had users report the S96j get 3.5-4 hours, while MiltestonePC saids around 2-2.5 hours.

I am gonna say the W1J will get around 2.5-3 hours because of the higher res screen, and more features in it.

However this model is not available in North America, so your outta luck until someone from Europe buys one and gives us a heads up.

    Thanks,

    MysticGolem

Any idea when it will be out in the US? I need to buy a notebook before early September of this year.

I had the W2J in mind at first but unfortunately it attracts more attention (I work on a seagoing vessel) then I'd like with it's 17 inch screen. I know the S/Z series are the opposite of attention attractors but I'm coming from an old Thinkpad which was built like a tank so I'm pretty spoiled in regards to build quality.

I had my mind set on the W3J until I saw this thread - the larger screen/TV tuner/Dolby Audio would be nice to have as this'll be my desktop replacement for a few years.

edit: Nevermind. I actually heard of the V1J before. You just kinda confused me when you said the V1J is basically a widescreen version of the V6J. Hmm.. from what I see, not so. Design of both laptops are two different to associate the two together. I'm getting the W3J. Pretty sure about it now.

You wont see the W1J in the US its to close in design and price to the w2j to compete. Its alot more because its the best built asus. ALL metal and they use only top quality components in that machine.
