hmm, this is not good. BUT i have a small explanation to why this is happening.

I have spoken to LG customer service, and i asked them WHY are you putting low res glossy screens on your laptops, when high res glossy or matte is so much better.

He said, North America wants/like glossy screens hence we follow the market. The problem is high res glossy screens are not available, there for we use this screen.

Now after that was said to me, i was like wtf. LOL, yes glossy has alot of upsides but the big downside is reflections, which is something we all dislike.

    WXGA+ is 1440x900 right? whereas WSXGA+ is 1650x1080.
Its quite, possible that ASUS NA allows wants to follow this trend of low res glossy screens. So instread of resorting to 1280 by 800/768 with glossy. they use WXGA+ glossy.

Also we know some laptops do have a WSXGA+ glossy screen, but NOT many, Samsung X60 SE, Sager 3880.

NOTE i am only talking about 15.4" screens. When you look at 17" and 14" and under, various res has glossy and matte screens.

Also the W1J is a multi-media notebook, therefor ASUS used a glossy screen instead of a WSXGA+ Matte screen.

Same goes for the W2jb, its also a multi-media notebook, hence it got a glossy and a lower res screen.

Aside it would be interesting to see what happens to the V1J, there has been a retailer that confirmed that the resolution was WSXGA+ Matte, however Cori provided me with a spec sheet which shows WXGA glossy. I bet ASUS would go on the fence again and throw in a WXGA+ Glossy for the V1J too, if they keep up with this. =\

    That's my opinion tho. ^.^

    Thanks,

    MysticGolem

I had not even heard of the W1J. Is this meant to compete with the V1J?

W1J basically is the 15.4'' version of the W2J.

The V1J has more or less the same specs, but its leighter and has some nice extras. The W1J in contrast to the V1J has a TV-card. Personally, I prefer the image of the W1J above that of the V1J.

I actually don't need a TV-card, but will need it ultimately in July, thus I'll make my choice based on:

    Price difference and release date

According to Justin and the link I assume it will be June for Europe.

do bear in mind though that this page has a few inaccuracies, like having the same simensions for both the w1 and the w2
it isnt unthinkable that someone has mistyped wxga+ for wsxga.... i would want to see more accurate documents

Also I thought that it was not clear if the W1j will be released in North America at all. After seeing what happened with the W3j, speculating about release dates is pointless. What I would like to know is will the W1j be released at all in NA?

There's a difference between logical thinking and speculating. My release month is based on provided information, and the past estimated release dates for Europe were normally quite right.

The W1j will probrably never make it to the US, Canada, perhaps. The W1n was a 'good' seller up here when it was out, but I doubt it sold many in the US.

the dimensions for the w1 are accurate, its the w2 that are out.
    w2j should be about 400mm x 300 x 35 VERY roughly
for complete accuracy, both the w1 and w2 are new hardware in an old chassis, the dimensions of the w2v and w1v will be the same as the w2j and w1j respectively

I was wondering. Is the HDMI connector on the w1j the same as the Micro-DVI connector on the w2j. They certainly look the same, but could there be another difference.
    btw: my w2j doesn't have a build-in webcam :(

Is the A6Jm supposed to be coming out in the US? If so, when? It seems the A6Jm is very similar to both the V1J and the W1J, so if the release date is earlier, I would think it would be a better option for some of us. Although, I'm not even sure which models are being released in the United States.

um, im not sure if the A6Jm is coming to the US.

But the US already has the S96 and will soon get the Z96js.
The Z96js will have a high res screen, that may be glossy. and will have internal bluetooth.

Also how soon do you plan to buy? Cos if you can wait, the V1J my come out in August. But it may cost a lot =\. We'll see.

    Thanks,

As a W2V owner the Sub really makes little difference. and the w3j could never fit it. as for wxga compared to wsga it means one screen has more pixels. Higher resolution meaning the image is sharper text is smaller and you can fit more on the screen at once like 2 windows open at the same time.
