    Hi.

I have been looking at the W1Jc and really like the specs. But the only report I have been able to find here complained about the fan noise level. I am not terribly picky about noise, but I would like to get a second opinion.

Can anyone who owns or have seen a W1Jc give their opinion? It would be especially nice if you are able to compare it to the V1Jp or G1.

    Thanks in advance,
    Rasmus Faber.

Don't by a modern, high performance notebook if that's the case. All Asus systems (I'm sure most others for that matter) are designed around the thermal envelope.... The system is designed to keep the system running well within it's operating range to ensure long life and continued high performance. "Fan noise" is simply a product of your use. Let me explain....

    1. The CFM of air moving through the fan is what causes "noise".
    2. The fan blade angle and RPM's create a certain CFM.
    3. The smaller the system, the smaller the fan, the greater blade angle and RPM's the system will need to have in order to maintain a set temp.
    4. RPM's are controlled by heat senors in the system.
    5. Heat senors are triggered by the performance of the cpu, gpu, etc.
    6. Those components are rising in temp due to the user's current use.

End result.... you buy a performance machine to hopefully make use of it's performance aspect.... therefore you have to be understanding that the fan "noise" will go up and down 100% determined by your use. You can modify this with different programs, but out of the box Asus' systems are set up in terms of what's best for the system. I don't think Any of Asus' systems are "loud" by any means compared to the old P4 systems, and it's rarely, and I mean.... rarrrely ever an issue I hear people talking about anymore in regards to any Asus system.

    Thank you for your response!

The single report from an owner was this, where he complains that the fan runs at maximum speed all the time. I would expect that a modern system runs with the fans at full speed when operating under full load, but I would also expect it to slow them down whe idling.
If the fans are running at full speed all the time, I would suspect a construction fault. That was why I would like a second opinion. Also, since the configuration of the W1Jc has changed since that post, the problem might have been fixed.
