    hello all,

I realize that this is not a selling forum, but I thought I would throw this out there....

I recently purchased a W1Vc from the UK, but when I received it, the display was not the same spec that was adverstised.....to make a long story short, the reseller won't take it back, and so I'm trying to find a home for it. It has not been turned on, and is still in all factory packaging. Only the seal to the main box has been broken (that's why the store wouldn't take it back)....

    This is a 2.0ghz, 1g PC4200 RAM, WXGA+, 128mb X700, 100g 5400rpm SATA super sexy, loaded W1Vc

keep in mind this is a UK version, so you would need an AC adapter.....

if you, or someone you know, is interested in getting a brand new W1V at a bargain rate, please email or call me.

    thanks,
    Chris

Basically you got a low resolution screen.... was it at least a glaretpye display or was it matte?.... and they would also need a US keyboard.

yes, the shop advertised a WSXGA+, and they sent the WXGA+.....they claimed that they weren't responsible because the buyer should check the ASUS website for exact specs, except that the ASUS website says that both resolutions are available for the same model.
as for the keyboard....the only difference i could find was that the # key was located in a different spot....do you know of any crucial differences?
also justin, do you know of anything i could do, perhaps with ASUS directly, about the display issue?

it's not that the display was swapped by the company to make a quick buck....as the ASUS label on the sealed notebook says WXGA....anyway, it is a Colour Shine (glossy) display

Well you could put a new US keyboard on there anyway... and hoenstly it's a pain to get used to the UK keyboard... they're easy and under $40 to swap.....

As for the screen...... yes, both resolutions are available and if that shop advertised one, it's THEIR responsibility, but technically it's your problem.... you obviously bought from an unreputable dealer because if you had you wouldn't have had this problem to begin with. Asus isn't going to do anything for you........ the model with WSXGA+ would have cost another $100 or so anyway.....

I really don't want to sound mean or anything - but the best part about the W1 was a WSXGA+ screen........ you've basically got an awesome unit that most graphic designers or even gamers would love......... but no one would buy because of the resolution.

Are you in the US. And if so why would your purchase a UK notebook?

i am in the US....i purchased a UK notebook because the W1 isn't carried in the US, and the UK version had the specs that i wanted...and was in english.
the laptop itself is perfect....it just wasn't the one i ordered, and i can't return it.

    Hiya
I am not sure how useful this is because I am in the UK but I am interested, depending on the bargain rate of course :p. My main concern is the warranty; would it now be the responsibility of the retailer that has treated you badly?
As I say I am currently in the UK but will hopefully be going to Canada around April, if I had troubles then would I need to send it back to the same retailer?
    Thanks Ed

SRD: yes, i have learned my lesson about trying to buy overseas....but the problem wasn't necessarily due to the international sale, but rather because the reseller was not cooperative. other than not being the resolution that i wanted, the screen is immaculate, beautiful, glorious, and still under factory plastic protection....she is sweeeeet!

ed. : please email me if you are interested, make me an offer...... [email protected]

oh, and ed.......SRD is correct, the 2yr global warranty will cover you anywhere. you would just deal with the ASUS center in the region you are in at that moment.

Thanks for your interest everyone, but the laptop has been sold.

The laptop was originally purchased at Laptop Craze in Birmingham.

By the way katerinag....after this recent experience, i would not recommend buying expensive computers overseas....although had it not been for this small specification detail, my experience would have been perfect, in my opinion, it is no longer worth the risk.

...but that W1V was such a beautiful thing, alas.......
