Been trying to get ASUS suppport to explain the difference (if any) between the hardware setup for the XP professional and the XP MCE versions of W2. So far the result has been no answer at all from some sites and "W2V should come with WinXP Pro" from another...
Anyone who can help me out in this matter? Whats the pros/cons of installing MCE on a machine preinstalled with the professional edition?

The only thing that MCE doesn't have that XP Pro does is a domain controller..... if you don't know what that is, I'll tell you right now that you don't need it.

For the most part it's XP Pro w/ the media center component.

Basically - here's the issue....... if you don't have the model that came with MCE - then you have a tv tuner that won't work with MCE.... the MCE models came with a specific tuner that was certified by Microsoft and I'll tell you right now, there's a enough difference between the two that they had to use two different cards in the two models they offered.

    Hope that helps.

Thanks for the fast response. Looks like I'm stuck with the old professional edition then. Changing to media center and not be able to use the TV-tuner seems like a not-so-good idea.

Or is it possible to replace the TV-card with something that works with MCE as well? And still have the DVB-T option?

"The only thing that MCE doesn't have that XP Pro does is a domain controller..... "

Minor correction - Technically, MCE can't connect to a Windows Domain hosted on a server running Windows Server OS that's acting as a Windows Domain Controller. No version of XP 'has' a domain controller. If you're not running a Windows Domain at home, and don't need to attach to one at work, XP Pro doesn't matter much, and if you don't know what that means, then yes, you don't need XP Pro.

Correct - thanks for the correction..... but basically as we both put it........ if you don't know what a domain controller is - you don't "need" xp pro and MCE has come a long way........

You could get the tv tuner for the MCE model, but Asus in your area probable only imported the XP Pro model, so they wouldn't have it...... but technically yeah you could buy that.....
