I haven't posted here in a long while, because I'm very happy with my W2v. Darn thing is light and has worked like a charm for almost a year now, but man it bugs me that they had to go and place most of the USBs and the 1394 connector on the right side. Particularly the 1394. As you can see there is no way to avoid the cable chaos. I wish that they could have squeezed it in with the tuner/ethernet area on the left side.

Don't get me wrong other manufacturers are just as inept when it comes to port placement.

I'm sure they had thier reasons. Rant over.

Maybe I'm unique as a left hander in that I've always used the mouse on the right side (but use the touchpad with my left hand). I would therefore share your annoyance at the socket location and agree that designers need to give more attention to socket location so that no cables need to cross the mouse territory (on both the left and right sides).

I also prefer front-mounted optical drives. My desk is usually congested and I have to make space to open a side-mounted optical drive. Maybe an optical drive which opens into the mouse territory would not be very inconvenient.

See that touchpad on your W2? It's a mouse

I'm left-handed and mouse with my right, besides on touchpads.

Thanks! Maybe next post you can tell me how it works. You can keep you smart alec comments to yourself.

Did it occur to you that I have functions programmed on the V400 that I need and use. The touchpad is far less ergonomical then the mouse.

You can use the touchpad when the camera is connected. You're just transferring over videos, right? I don't think many manufacturers put external mouse use into consideration when designing.

The vast majority of notebooks have most of the more common ports on sides other than the right because they expect people to use external mice and since most people in the world are right handed, it makes sense. When designing something that expensive, I would think that an external mouse would be considered, and it most likely is.
