    hello folks,

this has happened to me twice, and was wondering if any other W2JB owners have dealt with the same.....

my cpu runs @ an average of 50-53c throughout daily use --- i NEVER hear my fans....EVER......

so, two random times, the temp has spiked up towards 70c and stayed there for a while, forcing me to shut down and then the temp comes back to normal....during this time, i am NOT running any cpu intensive programs, so this heat spike is seemingly random......

when the temp hits 65-70+, i still do not hear fans......

what is going on here? i thought about updating my NHC and getting that whole ACPI fan control stuff going....but don't want to if it is unnecessary....

    Maybe you're deaf :p

The fan definitely works on mine and it runs at the same temperatures as yours, so I can only suggest that the fan really is running and you simply are not hearing it, or your fan is not working but your CPU is operating within normal bounds, and you do not have to tolerate fan noise.

If you have the NotebookProbe application installed, it can tell you if your fan is running and what speed it is running at. If it reports its running, but you can't find any evidence to support this, try cleaning the fan, if that doesn't help, your fan might be broken, which means you need to replace it.

Are you running any programs that could stop the use of the fans, maybe Speedfan, it has been stated before that this program could stop a few laptops from their fans.

How about putting your ear near the vent to possibly hear the fan.

Try removing NHC or don't run it, and then restart the laptop to see whether the fans start to work.

Mine runs pretty much the same temps as yours. The W2JB a very quiet laptop which is part of its appeal. The temps will go up to around 70 degrees when I've been gaming for awhile but I assume that is normal. Even when the fans spin up at higher temps, this is one quiet machine. That's just my experience.
