Well, don't delete stuff that you 'think' is bloatware. Delete stuff that you know is bloatware.
Reinstall drivers possibly related to the problem. I cannot give further info as I don't know anything about HDMI. -
ClearSkies Well no, I'm still here..
You may have to do a full system recovery to get it all back, and then do your reinstall again without all of the deletes unless someone posts where the audio and HDMI software is. Trouble is, it seems that there aren't a lot of W2 users around here anymore. Far from a short or elegant solution, but else I concur with EBE - one or more of your deletions were obviously critical

Do you still have sound thru the laptop speakers???
If you do then it looks like you have removed the spdif 'pass through' driver that directs the audio through the hdmi interface.
I would try reinstalling the realtek audio drivers on your recover discs and see if that works. -

its probably going to be a mobo driver, not a sound card driver like the realtek as that will deal with the audio processing only not the communications from sound card to the motherboard.
You can just do a system restore probably and get back what you lost, unless you turned off system restore too since its bloatware -

ok thanks guys. well i REFORMATTED my LAP, and installed all the drivers... still no luck..... ****.
what about ADAPTEK(C?) ... when i reformatted i noticed a quick one time blip after everything was installed saying something about a ADAPTEC driver not being installed or some sort.
isnt realtek an internet type driver? -
Huh.. u reformatted all and still the problem is not solve. I suspect is a HARDWARE problem.

im still skeptical of a hardware problem. ive only had the notebook for a few weeks and it was working when i first got it before the format. i baby my notebook and it hasnt gone through anything except sit..
the hdmi video works... just not the audio -
Well i guess the supports are still available, give them a call.

His Ati needs a specific hdmi audio driver that will repair the pass-through he's lost when he deleted what he deleted.
indefuseable chronic, try this
http://drivers.softpedia.com/get/SOUND-CARD/REALTEK/Realtek-ATI-HDMI-Audio-Device-Driver-R168.shtml
You can also try inserting your Asus driver support CD and look at the 'explorer' or 'file list' option.
You should see 2 maybe 3 drivers under audio. There will be a WDM driver too so reinstall that as well as that will/may also integrate the spdif audio driver with the hdmi iface. -
I have a related question. I too have an W2P and I'm running Vista and all the latests drivers.
In the Realtek HD Audio Manager under Vista, I have an HDMI Output tab that I have set as the default device.
I'm using one of those Monoprice SP/DIF adaptors and when I plug it into the jack on the front, the red LED inside the jack comes on. However, when I then plug in a Toshlink cable between the W2P and my receiver I don't get any audio when running the test tones from the Realtek audio manager.
Does the SP/DIF passthrough to HDMI actually reroute the audio to the HDMI output?
If so that sucks as I don't have an HDMI capable receiver yet. If that is really the case, Asus might as well not have even bothered with the SP/DIF on this laptop.
The only way I can get audio right now is to use a 1/8" jack to RCAs and I'm stuck with 2 channel audio.
Any ideas? -
i forgot about this thread... indefuseable chronic, did that help restore ur hdmi audio out??
To sync the audio and video a specific driver is required just for the HDMI. Since you have HDMI in ur W2P you should have audio out just like the OP's of this thread.
Since laptops with HDMI have 2 diff audio outs (hdmi connect and mini) you may need to search around to see how to enable the hdmi audio out.
Hope this helps -
Thanks for the reply but I think perhaps I wasn't being clear. My W2P actually have 3 sets of audio outputs as follows:
1. HDMI on the right side of the notebook
2. 5.1 Analog Outputs via 3 1/8" mini jacks on the front
3. S/PDIF optical output via one of the 3 1/8" mini jacks on the front
Since I don't have a receiver with HDMI in, #1 isn't going to work for me.
I don't want to mess with hooking up 3 analog stereo cables to get option #2 working.
So I'm trying to go with option #3, which is to use the optical transmitter buried deep inside one of the 1/8" jacks. So I picked up a converter plug that will allow me to mate a Toshlink optical cable with the notebook.
My problem is that I'm not getting any audio at all using this method. When I go into the Control Panel and chose to "Manage audio devices", under the Playback tab, I see the following options:
Speakers - Realtek High Definition Audio
Realtek HDMI Output - Realtek High Definition Audio
I'm pretty sure that "Speakers" is for activating/setting the 5.1 analog outputs.
The Realtek HDMI Output is obviously for activating/setting the HDMI audio out.
So when I set Realtek HDMI as the default output, I still don't get any sound from my receiver connected via a Toshlink cable.
Could it be that the tiny internal S/PDIF cable coming out of the soundcard is only connected to the graphics card S/PDIF input for carrying the sound to the HDMI connector?
If so, how come the S/PDIF emitter comes on (red glow) when I insert my adaptor plug into the 1/8" jack?
On a side note, I guess since the audio is delivered to the video card via S/PDIF, I will never be able to enjoy lossless audio like Dolby TrueHD or DTS MA via the HDMI output? -

mikey mike. actually no, the driver link you posted, didnt help at all. i appreciate your time however.
any other ideas ? this is irking me quite the bit as i'm watching movies via hdmi and listening to hte sound from my lap and not via tv speakers -
you guys need to manually go to your control panel and select sounds and audio devices. Then click the audio tab and find where you can select digital output.
You would think that as soon as a hdmi cable is connected that the switching would be automatic. -
-
Well, here are some snips of my digital output settings (Vista Ultimate 64-bit.)
HDMI is default output:
Jack information indicates HDMI port only (the black dot next to LR is not clikcable):
All formats are enabled, but the test button in each section is "greyed out". Perhaps because I don't have an active HDMI connection to another device? Is this perhaps a strong indication that the S/PDIF emitter has no input connected to it?
On/Off only options for HDMI level:
Enhancements and Dolby are all turned off:
Defaulting to regular DVD sepcs: (while the "Test" button is not "greyed out", no audio is present via my S/PDIF link when pressed)
Audio properties/drivers:
I'll try connecting my W2P to one of the HDMI displays at work tomorrow to see if I get audio that way. That will tell me for sure if the issue is a dead S/PDIF port, possibly due to the inclusion of an HDMI output on this particular model.
W2P trouble: deleted random bloatware, HDMI audio wont work on TV !! help
